On this day, Harry James Potter defeated Tom Marvolo Riddle, known and feared by the world as Lord Voldemort.

It was a pretty awesome event.

Favorite HP quotes, maybe? Or just your own celebrations! It is a momentous day!

Also the birthday of public GPS, Good Housekeeping, and ee cummings.

Coincidence? I think not.

"Alas...earwax."

Also, I discovered a band that goes by "Alas Earwax!" They write ridiculous stuff such as this:

Oh! I forgot the favorite quote part. I remember reading an interview where JKR said her favorite joke in Deathly Hallows was from Ron and Peeves.
We did it, we bashed them, wee Potter's the one,
and Voldy's gone moldy, so let's have some fun!

"Really gives a feeling for the scope and the tragedy of the thing, doesn't it?" said Ron

Of course, the one weekend I don't read the forum, I miss Harry Potter days. [sigh]

"Amazing! Amazing! This is just like magic!" - Gilderoy Lockhart.

I quote that all the time. Just ask Yellow.

I've always been confused by Lockhart's "amnesia." I mean, he grew up in the wizarding world. Even with large chunks of him memory gone, wouldn't magic seem as natural to him as indoor plumbing? Why is he surprised by it?

It's not just "amnesia." It's the side-effect of a strong memory charm! There have never been any psychological studies on the effects of powerful memory charms; comparing amnesia and memory damage from magic is like comparing apples and oranges. P:
