Humor will not be tolerated!! -Portia

Dear Portia:

When I was growing up, we had a LOT of National Geographic magazines in our basement. This was back before the internet, you see. And so when we needed to make a poster for our science class, we would search through to find a picture of a tiger, and cut it out for our project. When it was a history project, we would do the same thing. They were WELL used. It was right next to the Encyclopedia set, and was the only way we could do homework that required research without driving to the library.

I did the same thing as 42, except my giant stacks were of the Ranger Rick Magazine. I collected boxes and boxes of those things, and so many of them had pictures cut out. (sigh) I loved that magazine...

I still do this, only with my architectural digest magazines. For my interior design classes. There is something about searching magazines for pictures that is more enjoyable than typing things into a search bar.

My parents kept like 30 years of National Geographic, Readers Digest, the Ensign, New Era, the Friend, and Boys Life. After a while, our collection of National Geographic started getting eaten by bugs/rodents. Apparently they really like the glue, cuz we had these big stacks of magazines with chewed-up spines.

But yeah, National Geographic was the best for school projects! But once the internet came around, I started using Clipart and Google Images for that.
