What are your responses to Board Question #58285?

It has to be a plausible calling? That's really not fair, cause I would think the church is already pretty well set on needed callings.

I would like a calling like Church theoretical doctrine....ist. Cause that would just be cool.

Ward astronomy teacher. I could go to camps and activities and point out constellations to people.

I'm not entirely convinced of that. For instance, I'd never heard of a ward primary piano teacher before I read the article in The Friend, and I can see why a lot of wards wouldn't have enough people to staff that kind of calling, but I still think it's kind of cool.

Or you can take that as a challenge to justify needing a ward food taster, or whatever.

I'd also be interested in hearing your favorite calling or a calling you think you'd like to have.

Sometimes when I worked with the YW we would have a homework night for mutual. But I taught math, and tutor it on the side now- so I became the math specialist for a night. They all thought that was awesome. I think it would be rather beneficial if my calling was just to have specified hours that the youth could come and get math help once a week or something.

So . . . ward math tutor. How's that?

My favorite calling ever was nursery. Gospel doctrine teacher was also really good, but it might not have been as good if my current branch wasn't so awesome.

That's a great idea! (Especially since I think it would be good for the girls to shake the stereotype of women not being good at / liking math.)

I always wanted to be ward pianist. Well, I just got called and played for the first time on Sunday. (I got carried away with the Star Spangled Banner....) I may branch out and try to be ward organist too while I'm here, but I need to 1) get my leg good enough to push the pedals and 2) practice.

I'd also enjoy being ward choir director, I think. Right now only being RS chorister is putting my hard-won 'Basic Conducting' skills to use. Even more ward choir pianist...

Oh, whatever. I only covet music callings. Which is why I never had one until I left BYU.

Ha, music callings for me too. Only I don't have the skills to be pianist of anything. Nursery music coordinator and ward conductor were two of my favorites. I'd love to be a Young Woman's Camp something too.

My favorite calling would have to be my current one,ward choir director, though I second 42 in the idea that being the ward math tutor would be fantastic.

My other love is baking for large groups of people, so Gimgimno stole my third idea: ward baker. Man, how awesome would that be?

Wahoo! Have you had organ instruction before? Do you have access to support materials?

Ward philosopher. My job would be to correlate doctrines of the church to those of other churches and philosophies.

Yep, I took Basic Organ Skills when I was at BYU, so I have all the materials that came with the class. Not only that, but my dad has a key to the building so I can practice during the week! The only downside is our music specialist doesn't choose the hymns until the morning of. I'll bring that up with her once I'm comfortable with the idea of playing organ, after a four-year break.

Anything outside of ward music would be great! I'm only two callings away from having the whole set--ward chorister and choir director. I've made my rounds as Priesthood pianist, Priesthood chorister, ward pianist, ward organist, ward music chairman, and ward choir pianist. I also have done the whole stake organist thing. Based on the interview I had with the bishopric in my new ward this week, it sounds like I might still be trapped!

I stand by ward baker. That is a calling that I wouldn't mind having for several years.

My sister is assistant ward organist, she plays the organ one Sunday a month and takes a weekly organ class from the ward organ teacher.

My favorite real callings have been ward choir director and chorister during Sacrament meeting. But I have learned that I actually get stage fright during Sacrament meeting, so choir director is slightly more ideal.

But really, I stand by ward blogger. It would be GREAT.

I love the cheesy real callings. My sister was once a "Hymn Book Coordinator" and one of my former wards had a "Waffle Committee"

Of actual callings, the one I have had most frequently (and have loved the most) is gospel doctrine teacher. Speaking of which, I'm teaching this Sunday, and you all are invited!
