I've come to an interesting realization; my perception of others is often related to how comfortable I am with myself. If I've not slept well, missed too many meals, or get hit by some pathological force, my tolerance for others' quirks and idiosyncrasies takes a turn for the worse.

This, coupled with the understanding that the unsolicited taking of someone's passionately held idiosyncrasy and doing a point by point deconstruction showing how illogical and infantile it may be is not likely to modify their philosophies in the least, should help curb such urges.

In conclusion, if any of you catch me in such a situation (online or IRL), feel free to remind me of this, and I'll go have a nap.

i have a similar problem. i had to have a friend bring me dinner at the theatre the other night because if i don't eat before a show i get very short with my costars and the techies. same thing if i haven't slept. and i know i'm being rude and witchy, but i JUST DON'T CARE IF I HAVEN'T EATEN!!!

good thing i just had dinner.

Amen. For me, it's not so much idiosyncrasies as totally illogical beliefs. But I've learned that for the most part no one changes just because I tell them they're wrong, and that doesn't change even if I can present irrefutable facts. (This reminds me of a couplet someone (my parents?) told me once: "A man convinced against his will / Remains unconvinced still." So true.)

This happened to me today. I was really tired in my Japanese class and one of my classmates was like "was that due today?" and I was like "can't you read a syllabus??" which in retrospect was kinda rude.

I am liable to snap at Random during set-up on Saturday mornings for market. This is usually due to a combination of getting at 6:30-7 and not eating until after set-up.

I tend to be really careful about what I say in new places or to new people... but unfortunately once I feel comfortable sometimes I say things that just end up sounding incredibly mean.

If it is to people I know well, I know(/hope) they will give me the benefit of the doubt. But if it's just a place I know well (but with people I don't know well--like a internet forum)... I worry sometimes.
