Um, did anyone else do a double take on question 59728, when the Detective closed with "Have fun storming the castle"? My brain automatically put in
"Il Guanaco" after that, and then had to pause. Wait, he retired a long time ago . . . that says The Detective . . .

Is that legal? I mean, I can understand if someone else does a paranthetical aside like Rating Pending, because they come naturally sometimes. But that tag line ranked up with "That is all." to me.

Is there a story I am missing?

It's a Princess Bride quote.

My guess is that the Detective didn't know he was using someone else's catch phrase. Usually when people use the same thing as previous writers they'll acknowledge it -- like when people mention Horatio before or after saying "That is all." Il Guanaco is pretty far back, so unless the Detective (sorry, I should be capitalizing the article) has read the entire archives he might not know.

But then again, even if he does know, Il Guanaco wrote a long time ago. Maybe it's okay to use that catchphrase every once in a while, especially because (as krebscout mentioned) it's a fairly familiar movie quote.

I guess that means I have been reading the board for far too long.

And just to be clear, I wasn't really upset or anything like that. I was mostly curious what the reasoning was. I mean, the phrase didn't have anything to do with the question or answer, even if it is a famous quote.

(Though for me, personally, I only associate it with Il Guanaco- I'm not a Princess Bride fan.)

In the Princess Bride three men are faced with the seemingly impossible task of storming the castle, defended by (what is it, 60 men?). It is a daunting task, and the line "Have fun storming the castle" sounds ridiculous. Perhaps The Detective was suggesting that looking through the exhaustive list of 138 printers and trying to find the right one for the needs of the questioner was similarly going to be a lot of work, with a possibility of failure. Or maybe he just likes the phrase and uses it at random moments.

When I read it it made me wonder if it was supposed to be some subtle clue to tell us that The Detective and Il Guanaco were somehow connected.

I too thought of Il Guanaco, but I've also been reading for a while.

I didn't think of Il Guanaco at all. In fact, I've never read the archives that far back. [shame?]
