Upon seeing the phrase "dark and twisty," my first thought was this. Mmm, dark and twisty.

"Dark and twisty" makes me think of Grey's Anatomy. Characters often use the phrase to describe themselves when they are struggling with emotional issues and the like.

As pertaining to the question that spawned this turn of phrase, I once heard the British comedian John Oliver give a fantastic rant in which he suggested/demanded that new organizations put a warning at the end of all articles and before the comments section alerting readers that all content of any possible informative value has ceased. If you value your opinion of humanity do not read another word. If you choose to ignore this warning you will see the unfiltered thoughts of the dregs of humanity spit forth with vile abandon.

I couldn't agree more.

Dark and twisty... I think of some sort of cinnamon flavored pastry.
