Encore-Musicians

Okay, I thought we'd do something a little different and have, instead of a specific word, a category, this one being that the lyrics must make mention of a musician or group of musicians. Same eight-word rule, same 24-hour rule, except that Day 1 starts now and ends tomorrow at midnight.

I like the idea of extending the first day past 24 hours, because it hopefully also helps people who went out early on the last round to notice that a new round is starting.

Also, let's make sure that we are a little more clear about when the days end and begin. I know some problems occurred last time because some people weren't sure when the new day started.

Sing us a song, you're the piano man. Sing us a song tonight.

"The leader of the band is tired, and his eyes are growing old. But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul."

Dan Fogelberg, Leader of the Band

Also, Bob's is Billy Joel, in case there was any question.

By proper name? Or just any generic musician (or group thereof)?

Proper names was my original intention, but seeing as we already have submissions of ones without and I didn't specify, I'll allow it now and later unless it becomes a humongous problem. Just be glad I didn't use my original idea of composers only. ;)

I'm glad that rule is a little more flexible. I haven't been able to think of any songs yet that name a musician, though I'm sure they exist. I may have thought of one last night, but it was past midnight and sleep has erased it. Since it seems to me that writing down future ideas is cheating, I just have to hope I come up with it again.

Okay, people, unless you give me a splendiferous reason to be let in, you have 25 minutes until Day One closes.

Day two now, yes?

They were screaming my name, I guess it's a shame, but I don't need to be a rock star.

Okay, I'm curious about "getting lyrics wrong." I'm not quite certain of the beginning of a phrase, but I have at least 8 words solid. If I do mess up the first half, am I out, or did my correct 8 words save me?

This is for the future, as I'm not about to risk it yet.

The established rule is that you need 8 consecutive words that are right--if you do more than that, it can serve as a cushion, just in case. Or you can do it just because you feel like it--like I do now.

"Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust. London calling . . ."

(The phrasing of this is all off, but I can't remember any words from before that first part.)

"I am the entertainer, and I know just where I stand: another serenader, in another long-haired band. Today I am your champion, I may have won your hearts, but I know the game and you'll forget my name, I won't be here in another year, if I don't stay on the charts."

-Billy Joel, "The Entertainer"

"We sing Monteverdi, Vivaldi, and Byrd. And the way we sing Tallis has got to be heard. We vary the songs and we vary the pace with 2 altos, 1 tenor, 2 baritones, 1 bass."

--"What Kinds of Things" by the King's Singers
(I am seriously milking that group to death. I think I'll add some variety...tomorrow)
