Anti-virus

Post by Craig Jessop »

I just had to redo my computer and I need to know what the best free anti-virus is. Any suggestions?

I used to use AVG free when I had Windows. Now I have a Mac and I don't use anything.

The one I've seen recommended over and over lately (by computer folk over on Slashdot) is actually Microsoft's Security Essentials. The main things it has going for it is that it's (at least) as effective as things like AVG or Avast!, but it doesn't bog your system down or prompt you to upgrade to a paid version.

Avira has worked well for me, too. AVG has become pretty overloaded recently, but Avira keeps a nice small footprint.
