I regret to inform Gimgimno that I knew the meaning of the word "quincunx" before reading this question. (Although, by "regret to inform Gimgimno," I may mean "am smug about showing of to Gimgimno.")

For those who are interested, a "quincunx" is pattern of five objects arranged with four in a square and the fifth in the middle, like the five on a die.

Also, I haven't found a word that fits the definition the reader was looking for, but I did come across the 15th century word "chantepleure," which means "a mixture or alternation of joy and sorrow."

Why wouldn't xenophily work; seeing how xenophobia isn't so strictly defined as fear of strange people, but anything that is strange or foreign to one's experience?

 Awesome. That'll teach me to be smug about anything.
