A while ago, my sister-in-law and I were talking about the unspoken "clubs" that we feel we're a part of. As in, you're walking down the sidewalk and you see a stranger and you both have something distinctive in common, and so you feel connected to that person and maybe smile at them and then blush because you feel silly for smiling at them? She said she's in the long boarder's club, and the even more exclusive female long boarder's club. I feel like I'm in the girls-with-really-short-hair club as well as the stroller and double-stroller clubs. This last one especially seems to entitle other club members to share a knowing eye-roll at me and non-members to say things like "Uh oh, double trouble!" in the grocery store.

Tell me somebody else feels this way.

I'm sure I have felt like this, but I don't know with what...

I usually feel a certain kinship with other dog walkers when I'm walking my brother's dog.

I'd identify with what Sue Ellen from Arthur dubbed the "Reading While Walking Club," which is ironic because I only feel any sort of camaraderie when I'm not actively participating. I guess I could also identify with the "Dancing While Walking Club," but I haven't met any other members yet.

There used to be a funny local sketch show on TV in the Seattle area called Almost Live with a sketch called "The High Five'n White Guys" which was just a bunch of yuppie-dressed white guys in an overly happy mood jumping down the street high fiving each other. I know it sounds lame the way I describe it, but it's kind of funny. example

Hmmm… that's a good question. Mine are harder to tell on first glance, but I think I'd probably be part of the "gardening", "natural birth", and "Harry Potter lovers, but not extremists" clubs. Lemme think on the ones that are easier to tell at first sight.

If I'm dressed cute, I feel like I'm a part of the vintage-indie-thrift-quirky fashion club. If I see someone playing a DS I am part of the portable gaming nerds club (Pokemon!).

Every time I see a pizza delivery driver while we're driving around, I mention to Bob, "look, another of the brethren."

Other than that, any time I see anyone wearing something that identifies them as a wrestler.

Hmm. Most of my "clubs" don't have much in the way of outward indicators. I suppose I feel a kinship with people who are knitting in public (or who are wearing handknits). I've also been caught practicing organ pedaling while sitting in the congregation.

I practice organ pedaling all the time. Usually not in the congregation, because I'm de facto organist, but in Institute classes and Relief Society? You betcha. No one's mentioned anything, but that could just be because everyone thinks I'm crazy anyway.

If you see a girl wearing a Hufflepuff shirt do you count her as an extremist or not? Because I still love both of my Hufflepuff shirts and wear them whenever the occasion is appropriate (namely, ward sports nights) but I don't want people to think I'm extreme. But my love for the series would be observable on sight at those times.

I often feel like I'm in a "Wearing a skirt" club. Because I wear a skirt...well, let's think. I'm not wearing one today! But before that I wore a skirt for 13 days in a row (basically I wear one every day). And it's not that common, though definitely more common these days than when I was in college (that could just be me though).

Also, I always liked the "club" of music majors on campus carrying their instruments around, but I've never played an instrument (well) that fit in a case.

"People who run very slowly" comes to mind. When I lived in East Africa, "white people" was a pretty small club, too.

When I see people wearing duct tape items or friendship bracelets, I usually feel either kinship or, uh, well... a small sense of superiority? You know, "Mine is better!"

I'm such an awful person. : )

Just remembered one I used to belong to: the walking with a limp club. I've been inactive lately...

Ok, I thought of two visible ones:
1. Baby bumps.
2. People out working in their yard/garden.

People who work at the library and go for a walk on their breaks. (I have a couple of coworkers that I often see on the quad when our breaks coincide.)

The wet hair in the morning club.

Cleaning people of all types. I've been working in maintenance and janitor work my whole life. When I drive around and see a pressure washer or somebody pressure washing, I freak out a bit.
