I thought it was funny that the question-asker was offended by the "winning team losing team" chant because of how much else went on during that game that night. I wasn't there, but I heard (mostly from BYU people, but from Aggie fans as well) how classless the Aggie crowd was.

Then at ward council the bishop discussed how inappropriate it was, at which point I found out that the main people doing the worst chants are in my ward. Hooray!

All the Institute teachers discussed it this week too. We'll see if there's any improvement.

The problem is, USU hates BYU for reasons I don't understand. The letter to the editor Art posted seems to suggest they think we're all hypocrites (it even implied that all BYU athletes are sleeping with their girlfriends and only Brandon Davies was brave enough to admit it) but many of the people I met at BYU were legitimately good people just doing their best to follow Christ; I can't even think of any real hypocrites (any more than we are all hypocrites). I also don't really think that we're holier-than-thou either. I get way more of that here ("BYU students are required to take religion courses; you're here because you want to be! How awesome are you?!"). In response, BYU doesn't even really care that USU exists.

Basically, I was sickened about what might happen at the game the moment they started "occupying the Spectrum" in preparation for the game, and my sinking feeling did not disappoint.

I think this might be the actual source of the issue. BYU doesn't care about USU and USU is mad about that, so they come up with things to hate about BYU. (I'm not saying BYU doesn't have its flaws, but I don't think the things you're citing are the actual source of the antipathy.)

Does BYU care that anyone exists? I know some people get really riled up about the U of U/BYU game, but it still seems to me that the U cares more about the game than BYU does.

The majority of BYU students (66%) are from outside of Utah and don't grow up with the BYU-U of U rivalry (or at least don't grow up with it as a local rivalry). I can't easily find in-state vs. out of state demographics for the U, but I'd guess that at the percentage of undergrads from Utah is at least 80-90%. I think those demographics right there could account for a lot of the difference in attitude.

So I must say, I originally saw this thread and thought it would be about the OWS movements.

I am the disappoint.

Well, the OccupytheSpectrum movement is based on them. Even though they mainly just stole the name. They weren't protesting anything, nor was there a point. Lamest name-rip-off ever.
