I'm moving to Portland! I'll be living with Unlucky Stuntman and her boyfriend and son. On June 27th Stuntman and I will drive away and leave Vegas behind.

Basically I need decent mental health care and I am leaving my hometown to get it. People love to visit Vegas. Vegas is a steaming pit of substandard services (education, healthcare, anything you can imagine that makes a place worth living in...) and no culture to speak of outside of the kind of (mostly expensive) acts on the Strip. We don't have a state income tax, so the tax on the casinos go to pay for things like schools, but the casinos have huge amounts of political power and interest in having an uneducated workforce who will be excited to get jobs for $15/hour straight out of high school without realizing that the pay doesn't go up all that much when you are 40 and have a couple of kids. I am very happy to be leaving.

Sweet :) I gotta say, based on what you've told me and my 2 days at the strip, it wasn't that fun anyway? Might as well move somewhere with someone awesome like Unlucky Stuntman. I hope to hear about your adventures!

A funny coincidence: If you have a question about life, the universe, or anything, where do you go for an answer? Google, of course. What's the value of גוגל (Google) in the Hebrew gematria numerological system? 42

Ugh, last night I slept in my new place for the first time. It's a townhouse with bedrooms upstairs and it was HOT. I have stuff sort of blocking the vent from getting much air circulated, so I sorta expected it to be a little too warm, but not like 80+ degrees. I came downstairs this morning and the thermostat was set to 75. Downstairs. For the nighttime. Who are these people.

Heh, we keep ours at 78-79, but we live in Texas and it gets super expensive to run the air all the time...

So do you have new roommates?

Yes, new roommates (that I already know, though I haven't lived with them before) and I always just figure that you turn off the air during the day and turn it on at night when people are actually home. It also has to be less than 74 for me to sleep without nightmares. But I recognize that is not a universal issue.

we have our air on constantly at 76... but sometimes my husband puts it down to 74 if he has trouble sleeping :-)

Heat/AC seem to be a pretty universal source of roommate disagreements. Can you get a window unit for your room without freezing other people out?

I'm going to try just putting some wet washcloths in bed with me tonight until I can make a rice bag and buy a fan (I hate being blown on, but more air circulation will be better than nothing). Also with my vent unblocked that will help a little. And maybe it was a one-night fluke and they usually remember to turn down the AC and just forgot (which happened to me sometimes at my old place).

You could also close some of the vents downstairs, which'll keep it a bit warmer down there (meaning the AC will run a bit more.)

We might be getting a puppy! I'm really excited, but I'm also mentally preparing if the 'might' becomes a 'not'. I should know by next week.

Is she a lab? What are you going to name her?

It's a boy, he's a lab and his name is Ruger. And yes, my signature does make things seem a bit more dubious.

My spring break, my husband's spring break, and my best friend's husband's spring break are all the same week this year! JoJo (the only one of the four of us who doesn't work for a school or college) can probably get some time off then also, so the four of us are going to go stay in her husband's family's cabin in Colorado!

I have a lot of questions about how they performed their survey and what statistics they are comparing to (if you compare BYU grads to the national average that's really not the same as comparing BYU grads to any other grads, for starters). Similarly, I wonder how many no-longer-LDS grads saw the survey and decided not to do it because they don't like BYU anymore. Surveys are hard.

That said, I do own 5 BYU clothing items!!! Assuming we count my Board shirt. :D

What is a cougar tail? The picture makes it look like an eclair, and the name makes it sound like something I don't want in my mouth.

I did really like the part at the end about "superlative grads."
