In your home, what is the ratio of residents to drinking glasses?

3 residents: 38 drinking glasses. (I'm assuming this includes mugs; if not, cut the number about in half.)

This is a bit misleading, since two weeks ago it was 2 residents and 37 mugs/glasses. I own 29, my roommate owns 8, and the girl who moved in last week has one.

How do you define "drinking glasses?"

I resident, way more drinking glasses than I can even count because my parents keep bringing them to me. Probably 40-50!

2 residents: 15 pint glasses.

6 residents, about 10 drinking glasses in use, that many more in storage.

Four permanent residents and approximately 70-80 glasses in use, with another three dozen or so in occasional use.

To be fair, the house sees periodic (usually every other week) parties that can extend into 30-40 people, so I don't see the number as being exhorbitant.

6 residents, about 12 smaller drinking glasses and probably...20 tumblers that people don't generally use because they're too big!

Oh, plus all the "other" glass glasses that we keep for company/fancy dinners. 8-10? 12?

I would say any drinking vessel that's in regular circulation. We have a couple of mugs I wouldn't count because we only use them maybe once a month.

For everyone who's answered: Are you satisfied with that ratio? Do you feel like you ever run out, and if not, do you have a system to ensure that you don't?

Our small drinking glasses break fairly regularly. (We're not used to glass at our house, having only recently converted from plastic.) That makes them run out even sooner. Which, we do run out if the dishes haven't been done. But we do a lot of dishes. That prevents us from running out!

And if all else fails, there's always the tumblers. What's wrong with me, I only want to write tumblr.

We have four residents, and about 10 drinking glasses. I've never felt restricted by it. If we don't have enough for some reason (which would be very unusual, as the apartment is pretty small) we could always run out and buy some disposable cups.

2 residents, 10 small glasses and 6 large ones, with about five mugs for hot drinks. I hate running out of glasses. We also recently got 6 plastic cups for kids who come over, but those aren't in regular circulation.

My house: three residents, up to 40 or so glasses in the cupboard, usually only about 12-15 used before the dishwasher is run

My parents' house: nine residents, about 20-30 glasses in regular use, though they try to cut down on that by having a set of cups with everyone's names on them that they are supposed to use day in and day out

If we're only talking about glasses that get used more than once a month, my apartment probably uses fewer than 10. We all only use our own, so we don't get confused about who's been using which dishes. We also wash all of our dishes by hand when we're done with them, so we don't have glasses sitting in the dishwasher waiting to be cleaned.

So yeah, we've never come anywhere close to running out of clean glasses.

We usually let the dirty ones pile up and then drink juice less and less frequently based on not wanting to wash out a new glass. So although we have 15 glasses, there are usually only four or five that are clean at any one time. We both have water bottles that we drink out of more than anything else. But, if all our glasses were clean, or even only half, we'd have enough to go around, even with guests over, so it's a good ratio. Or maybe it's a bad ratio because it allows us to dirty a large number of dishes before being forced to wash them. It's the old argument of with more dishes we wouldn't have to do dishes as often vs. with more dishes we'd become even less inclined to clean up after ourselves and the dishes would take over the kitchen and destroy us. I'm starting to think 15 glasses is too many.

I would like to say that in my apartment three years ago we had tons of glasses. Of course, most were old spaghetti and salsa jars, but they worked just fine for us!

Aye, it's a bit tough to know when to stop counting mason jars, we've got at least 4 that are always in use, 2 pints and 2 quarts (one of which is an official 'drinking jar' with the handle and all.)

We've got 8-9 tall glasses, two more that are oversized, 8 small kids cups and, I think, 10 mugs. There are several fancy goblet-type cups, but as those rarely get used, I didn't count them.

I think that is a sufficient amount. We rarely run out unless we really need to do dishes or have company over. Though, if we have more than we can serve with those, we'll probably be using plastic cups anyway. We rarely go through all the mugs except when I craved tea this past pregnancy. (My only ever Pregnancy craving. Weird, I know.)

I think we have 7 cups, and no mugs (thus 3.5 cups per person). When I was engaged the cupboards were full of junky mugs that wouldn't stack, so I put a moratorium on nonessential drinkware when I got married.
So far it's worked well enough.
