So how does the doctor figure out what the correct prescription is when all the patient can say is "bbbbmamawaaa"?

I have always wondered this myself.

A "physical eye exam": there's a machine that measures the lens of the eye, and they do some other physical tests I think. And if you're curious about hearing tests for newborns, they hook up electrodes to your baby's head and hope he stays asleep while they make beeps at him and measure how his brain reacts. Ah memories.
