Wait, so are you supposed to always text people back immediately? Is that the expectation? I mean, I do if I have my phone by me when I get the text and I'm not busy doing something else and I actually want to talk to the person. But usually I just treat my texts as sort of like emails. And it hasn't pissed anyone off yet.

Everyone thinks so much about it. I just don't get it. I text back right away because I'll forget if I don't, and I'm not concerned about seeming "desperate" or something. But if someone takes a while, I don't care.

I just don't usually have my phone anywhere near me. Unless I'm working and it's in my pocket, and in that case I don't answer texts anyway because I'm working.

An NPR story I listened to today about teaching teens about violence cited the statistic that 60% of girls will text just to say "hi," whereas only 40% of guys do. Could be different gender expectations, that maybe she doesn't fit in with the norm.
