Silver Lakes Hike in American Fork Canyon

Hi all.

I know we have a lot of outdoors enthusiasts on this board, so I'm hoping for some real feedback.

I am NOT a hiker. I'm not in good shape, and hiking is difficult for me. I have bad knees, and I have some sort of tear in my ankle as well. That being said, my young women's group is heading out on this hike on Wednesday. Has anyone here done this hike? How difficult is it?

The most recent hike I did was about a month ago and was Stewart Falls, which most people would say is a very easy hike. For me, it definitely was not easy, but I did do it.

Thanks for any feedback! :)

It's not actually Silver Lake in Big Cottonwood Canyon, is it? That's an easy, doable hike.

Nope, not that one, although that one definitely looks doable. :)

This trail gains 1450 feet over 2.2 miles, so it is an uphill hike, but the steepness isn't anything extreme. The Silver Lake trailcan easily be completed in one day, and the lake makes a great lunch spot for families with children. From Silver Lake, hikers have an awe inspiring panorama of towering limestone mountains, including White Baldy.

Distance: 4.4 miles round trip

Difficulty: 3

Hike Time: 2-5 hours round trip
