I always saw the single-adult session as a chance for the singles to feel more like we can participate in the session. When you're surrounded by a bunch of married couples it can feel more than a little awkward, and there were many times when I would have wanted to do more but didn't because I would have thrown off the numbers. When you're in a group with a bunch of other single people it doesn't feel nearly as weird.

Contrary to popular belief, the main thing on the mind of LDS singles 24/7 isn't "finding an eternal companion" (even us old-maid ones) - I'm far more concerned about my own personal spiritual well-being, and if I happen to run into someone in the process, then so be it.

I felt like the questioner was less disgusted by the prospect of singles wanting to find each other, and more about the leadership trying to find any way they can to marry us off. Then again, that could be colored by my own resentment. (Would it kill my second counselor to ask how people are doing, instead of their dating lives?)

Yeah, I used to go to that session sometimes when I lived in Provo because it made me feel like I could participate in all the parts of the ceremony that it was sometimes awkward to participate in when the whole room was full of young married couples.
