What Are Some Things Most Mormons Like That You Dislike?

Seconding Stego Lily on the Republican Party. I also agree with the question asker in not liking Studio C or Mormon Messages.
I liked Concorde's comment on where it is acceptable to cry. I normally try to hide my crying from people, but during a recent choir rehearsal in St. Francis's I cried all over and did not care. It is always acceptable to cry in St. Francis's.
Other things I dislike: reading the BoM over and over (I prefer NT), going to so many activities during the week, and faith-promoting rumors.

The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

Conservative politics, Disney movies, and putting some sort of wheat-containing ingredient in every single recipe.
I was actually thinking about this on a more general scale recently, and things that most people (Mormon or otherwise) like that I really dislike are The Beatles and Ted talks.
Edit to add: and Steve Jobs. I think he was a misanthropic sociopath, and I'm not using those words just to be dramatic. And yet I use Apple products, because I had to use Mac or Linux when I was doing astronomy, and troubleshooting and installing stuff in Linux is just too complicated for me. But I am not buying any more of their products until they fix their labor practices. If I need a new computer, I will buy something and put Linux on it. I actually really like Bill Gates and wish that Windows wasn't such a crappy operating system.
And now that I have taken this way off topic, please continue.

And back to the original topic, I would also add putting vinyl letters on your walls and worrying about dressing your infant "modestly."

I was just thinking about vinyl letters! My husband would love to get some for our house that say "All because two people made love" but I think it would give people the wrong idea about why we got married.
Anything that could fall under the category of "Enrichment activity," like mod podging pictures of Jesus onto stuff; anything involving Mason jars in any capacity; beef; foods that my kids are allergic to being a staple of Church social functions; being musical; Girl's Camp.

bob, faith promoting rumors are THE BEST! How can anyone hate them? (o:
I have an intense hatred of the "[X] Family: Established [wedding date]" signs. I think I've been vocal enough about hating them that I'll probably get like twenty of them if I ever get married because that's how my friends roll...

Sexual repression, "family-friendly" films, Deseret Book, and casseroles.
I like Studio C, beef, and crying, though.

Beef: It's What For Dinner.
I'm a Mormon.
Beef is Mormon.
Ergo, I'm for dinner.

Things I dislike:
-semi-canonical Mormon art and also the kitschy kind
-inspirational quotes, especially ones that are unsourced
-generalizations about gender powers
-firesides, because they usually contain all three above things
-cheesy Mormon novels (I give up on having a book group with multiple women over 40)
Thanks, now I feel like a huge jerk!

I HATE DEVOTIONALS AND FIRESIDES AND EVERY CHURCH MEETING AFTER CHURCH ON SUNDAY.
There. I said it.
(Last night at the CES broadcast, it kind of died and stopped working after like 30 minutes, so the stake president got up and was like "well, kids, I guess you can go watch it at home. Just meet three new people before you leave." It was the best thing ever, because I got the spiritual brownie points for attending, but I didn't have to sit through another hour of church. [as a side note, the reason it was broken ended up being because of my dear brother, bless his heart. In the words of the guy I was sitting next to, "We should have your brother perform covert operations more often!"])

haha, Gio, you don't have to go to devotionals and firesides! Just say no.
Re: What Are Some Things Most Mormons Like That You Dislike?
Ward prayer. I've completely stopped going.
Handouts in gospel doctrine/sunday school/relief society
Doilies. At least, most of the women in my home ward like them.

You don't know my mother. (Plus we had stake choir practice after, and I did want to go to that, if only to heckle the director. I mean, to sing. I would never heckle anyone. Ever.)Whistler wrote:haha, Gio, you don't have to go to devotionals and firesides! Just say no.

If Sunday dinners in the cafeteria are any indication, then yes. So much beef/meat.Marduk wrote:Beef is Mormon?

Ok, I'm with you on that, but I don't know if it counts because I don't think most Mormons like all the non-church Sunday meetings.Giovanni Schwartz wrote:I HATE DEVOTIONALS AND FIRESIDES AND EVERY CHURCH MEETING AFTER CHURCH ON SUNDAY.
And my dad always says that he can't go to firesides because he went to one once, but there was no fire.

I like beef, but I kind of don't like chicken all that much. It's dry and stringy and so many bones. I used to eat in a lot when I lived in the States and it was cheap, but it's actually more expensive than beef and pork in Canada, so I'm just like, "What's the point?"
Re: What Are Some Things Most Mormons Like That You Dislike?
it doesn't have to be dry and stringy... if you cook it right.

True, but the problem is that you have to cook it so it's well done, and compared to beef that I like to eat medium rare at most, it's always going to seem dry and stringy.
Re: What Are Some Things Most Mormons Like That You Dislike?
3 hour church schedule. I was at a Catholic cathedral yesterday at the end of mass. Only 45 minutes. Everyone seemed so happy and cheerful heading home for the evening. I'm usually ready to call it a day by the time the first sacrament meeting speaker makes the same lame joke about getting tricked in to speaking by a sneaky second counselor in the bishopric.
