I tried to follow the suggestions for tags so that my references would link to the appropriate sites. It didn't work. What did I do wrong?

You didn't include a word to be the actual link, nor did you close the link. So, it should have been something like

[ url = "www.whatever.com"]This is the text you click on [ / url]

(Sorry I included spaces where there shouldn't be to make it easier to post.)

The disable BBCode checkbox should work. (Use Full Editor, not quick view.)

Yes, the rules on this forum are very different.

For instance <i>html tags</i> like that are handled differently on here, in questions, and in answers, as I've discovered.

Also, on the Board at least, you need to have the leading http:// on all links (or else the link just won't work).
