My go-to hairstyle with greasy hair is a simple ponytail, but I also pretty much never put much effort into doing my hair.

I also wanted to add that if you are willing, a few months of letting hair get a little greasy by deliberately lengthening the time between washes can make your hair accustomed to it and let you go longer without washing. I currently wash my hair only once or twice a week, and man is it ever a time saver. (In case anyone is about to get grossed out, I still shower; I just put my hair up to keep it dry unless it's a washing day.)

Another option is to cut out the chemicals that repress your hair's natural oils and just use baking soda and vinegar (or lemon juice). I won't go into details unless someone cares, but I've been doing that since Niffler Baby was a few months old, so I guess a little over a year and a half now, and I can usually go 7-10 days between washing my hair before it gets greasy. (It goes longer when I use vinegar and not so long when I use lemon juice.)

The first couple weeks of your hair adjusting is grease-fest, though. I wore a handkerchief over my hair for 2 weeks. I was also a stay-at-home mom that didn't get out much, though, so that helped my case as well. But now it's quite lovely and well worth those two weeks.

I tried so hard to switch to baking soda and vinegar, but I just can't put in the effort. My handmade shampoo bar does a pretty good job, though, and I'm supporting a small business in the process! : )

Blech. I need me my chemicals. I tend to have dry skin and dry hair, though, so I use a shampoo with Moroccan argan oil. I French braid my hair if it's looking dull.

HOW DO YOU BRAID YOUR OWN HAIR??

I don't even know how to braid three pieces of string together, so maybe that is my problem, but seriously... I'm so envious of people who can braid hair.

I go 3 or 4 days between washes, too. And I do the dry shampoo thing on days where I have less getting-ready time. My greasy hair hairstyle is a bun. Same as every other day.

We've been trying to teach Marduk how to braid hair, and he can do an okay job. I think he mostly tries in order to get back at us for braiding his hair, though.

I had to do my hair a lot for dance groups. Also, my mom often French braided my hair. So I learned by observation.

I also had those Klutz books on hair braiding. (In addition to the nail art one and the beading one.)

Maybe you could buy this and make up for the fourth-grade experiences you missed out on.

mic0, braiding is a learnable skill! It does take effort to learn though... I think I spent a few weeks trying to learn how to French braid my own hair, and I still suck at it. But regular braids are easy!

That book is going for a pretty penny over on Amazon. Read this review from a military dad. It's adorable.

Says you! When I try a basic one the strands poof out at the nape of my neck all weird, and the ends of my hair poke out of the sides of the braid instead of all at the bottom, like they should. Stupid hair.

My best friend growing up had that book. Her dad was also the only dad I knew that did his daughters' hair.

Braiding is learnable. I still struggle french braiding my own hair sometimes, but most of the time it's doable. Those and twists are my "I haven't washed my hair but I need to look decent and I can't find the baby powder" styles.

When I was in 4-H (The Prairie Roses 4-H Homemaking Club, to be specific), we had a workshop one time called "Tress to Impress" where we learned how to a million different kinds of braids in our own hair. And this was in like 1994, so we also learned how to do truly epic things with our bangs.

My hair never gets greasy unless I put it in braids, but that's because I'll have those in for MONTHS. I can go weeks without shampooing my hair, though I do get it wet everyday so I can get a comb through it.
