underwear in baptisms for the dead

Oh my, I hate those designed-for-twelve-year-olds flimsy sports bras they give you. Sometimes I've worn cheap bras just so I am not showing nipples. Upon reflection, I think a white bikini top would be the best solution here. I think they changed the underwear style in the 5 or so years I did not go to the temple, as well (~'07-'12).

I was surprised to get underwear when I did baptisms for the first time in Provo. In Oakland we had to bring our own dry pair.

I don't recall ever being given underwear when doing baptisms... Am I that old?

I first did baptisms in 1994 in Cardston and they gave us underwear.

I've done baptisms in Idaho Falls, SLC, Provo, St. George, Jordan River, Timp and Manti between 1985 and 2006. I honestly don't recall ever having them give me underwear. That seems... strange. I just always wore white underwear and brought an extra bra and panty. Unless my memory is far more shot than I ever expected...

My suspicion is that it's new (ish) because people don't *have* white underwear anymore. I run into it every month at 8-year old baptisms when I have to tell them not to wear spiderman or tinker bell underwear, because although the baptism jumpsuits are modest, something as bright as spiderman tends to shine through. (Also, I get way too big of a kick seeing how many laughs I can get from 8-year old boys when I talk about their underwear.) At least 1/3 of all parents say something like, "Oh man, I didn't think about that. We need to go shopping. You don't have any white underwear." I wonder if it became a problem at the temples when people consistently showed up for baptisms in non-white underwear.

This is reminding me so much of Disney and how they used to make the cast members in costume wear Disney-provided underwear.

It was something that rolled out at some temples, and I think is at most of them now. And yeah, it's probably partially colored undies problems. But I would also guess people showing up without a change of dry underwear and being stranded. Or forgetting their wet things. Having underwear provided probably simplifies things. Although the first time I experienced it in Provo I was actually a little grossed out.

Now I just try not to think of how many other bums have sat in that onesie thing.

We have the same onesie thing in my home temple, but they always expected us to bring our own underwear and bra...

Hahaha. You don't think I'm that old, huh? Fine. 1995. Be picky.

Wouldn't the chlorine ruin your bra?! I am very, very protective of my (many, many) bras.

We just used an old white one. And besides, we only went every four months or so.

I always have to wear a sports bra when I go swimming. So far it hasn't done too much damage to any one of the three I use.

It would probably be a problem if you went frequently. The chlorine would probably eventually kill the elastic. But seriously, this is a dilemma. In st. George, they don't have bras unless you're a 36 or 38 band size (and I was used to temple provided sports bras, even if designed for twelve year olds). I may be thin in my ribcage, but that doesn't mean I don't have breasts and feel comfortable in a white suit that gets wet.

I have a couple of "special use" bras. One is a really soft, slightly worn out sports bra that is also a size small. Despite, and in part because of, its problems, I try to throw it in my bag anytime I go to a new temple. Just in case they don't have an option for me, I know I'm covered, literally. And if I double-suit, I just put my normal bra on when I change because the jumpsuits are thick enough that a pale colored bra doesn't show through.
