Posting here because I am 100% sure the Board would not post this in a comment.
I have always thought the story of Lot was strange. I also read the Card book Sarah and thought that his explanation just made stereotypes out of everyone involved. The JST absolves Lot of one travesty, but still leaves a story that allows us to praise a man who was lazy and flawed while forever condemning a woman who barely gets mentioned.
The explanation that I have read and liked was posted on Feminist Mormon Housewives at the beginning of this month. It's pretty long, but an interesting look tying in Jesus' request that we "remember Lot's wife" as well as the symbolism of a pillar of salt.

Story of Lot
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.
Re: Story of Lot
I think I read that when you posted it on FB. I liked it.
Re: Story of Lot
What about the drunken rape of Lot by his daughters? That right there is enough to push the Bible as a whole into "don't take this as moral advice" territory for me.
