I enjoyed reading this, but I also feel like as an article it's all over the place thematically. Is Queer Eye problematic or helpful? Is her thesis that the show doesn't do enough, or does it the wrong way, or that toxic masculinity/heterosexuality/capitalism are irredeemable?

I dunno. I love the show and it feels like a genuine force for good to me, but that doesn't necessarily make it immune to well-informed criticism.

I agree with you that Laurie Penny is muddled in her thinking when she reviews “Queer Eye.” What exactly is she trying to say about it?

I think the problem is that she really only wants to promote her brand of Feminism and Communism.

I have never seen the show. I just read the review to see what you were talking about. Thanks for sharing. I now understand more what the show is about. Like you, I think, I found it hard to figure out what conclusion she had reached after her ramblings, other than how they impacted her two cherished topics.

You should watch the show. It's quite good.

It's uplifting, inspiring, educational. The best kind of reality tv.
