This blog entry hit the comedic spot for me, and I thought I'd share.

That was a fun little read. I wonder if my readership would shoot up if I write about Twilight...

Yeah, I doubt it too.

I like this guy. He is witty and writes funny things about a series that I roll my eyes at. Of course, I already posted my feelings on the Twilight series somewhere in one of these threads, so I won't start ranting again.

I agree.

And I'm glad you won't start ranting, 'cause then I would start ranting, and then who knows what would happen?

Mass chaos, probably.

And then I would join in. Mass chaos indeed.

There's nothing to join at the moment. Unless you wish to join us in the refusal to rant about it.

Edit: A good place to rant and read other good arguments is here.

I admire our collective restraint.

Heh. I have already ranted about it in my blog, to my sister and a bit through my facebook status and quotes, not to mention an anti-twilight facebook group as well, so for me, I haven't shown much restraint.

Apparently Christopher from Magna could demonstrate the same level of restraint the readers of this forum have. I understand this fairly ridiculous letter was published in the Daily Universe today:

Twilight is Pornography

The "Twilight" novels are pornography. Thought pornography is seen as a male problem, explicit pictures and romance novels create a quick and fabricated experience of a romantic relationship. For men, pornography creates unrealistic expectations for their girlfriends'/wives' bodies. For women, it creates unrealistic romantic expectations for their boyfriends'/husbands' actions.

Was there an article on it in the DU a few days earlier? Either way, I find it hilarious.

That is ridicules! I never knew that I was into porn, but I guess I am!

Here is my stance on Twilight and all relating books: I think they are cute, romantic, and complete fiction
I think that people comparing their boyfriends to Edward or Jacob would do better to compare him to superman, spider-man, or the hulk. No, he can't fly. Well then, maybe I shouldn't marry him!

I like the novels. I think they are overall pretty well written (as far as plot and story elements go) and evoke a proper amount of pathos from the female population. I think the biggest problems that most guys have with them are
A) They are corny
But so are most romantic novels (read anything by Rachel Ann Nunes or Anita Stansfield... good books but way corny) or watch any chick flick. Normally corn isn't that bad

B) Unreal expectations
It depends on the girl. As stated before, I think most people who read them realize that expecting that from the boyfriend/husband is as unrealistic as expecting him to pick up cars.

Heh...I chose to read that as rhyming with Hercules.

Whoever this Christopher West guy is, he totally ripped me off. Oh well, at least I agree with him.

Am I a horrible person if "I never knew that I was into porn, but I guess I am!" sounds pretty hilarious out of context?

Yes, I probably am, but I stand by it . . .

I see what he's saying but I don't agree. (After all, one of the things that makes the Twilight series so popular is how clean they are.) For it to be actual female porn, I think it would have to be more of a bodice-ripper. I think Twilight is more like the equivalent of a mass market movie with a really hot actress. It's nowhere near actual porn, but it still plays to unrealistic expectations. (And I imagine that guys hate being compared to Edward / Jacob as much as girls hate being compared to Angelina Jolie.)
