In German, you can call a potato an Erdapfel as well...also the same thing as pomme de terre! I love it when languages do that.
Then what's a Kartoffel? (Oh, and fyi, the technical term for when languages literally translate an idiomatic expression is a calque.)

Erdapfel is Austrian German. Kartoffel is German German.
