Free Podcasts! Honestly, I just put ~40 on my shuffle... so interesting! 14 hour drive here I come (you can hook the iPod up to the radio system)


10 hour drive tomorrow, then about 4 more on Saturday... then I will be in Utah for 2 days, then to Idaho for 4, then I will go home. I have like 6 library books (for when I am not driving ) and then a ton of podcasts...

Any suggestions of anything else I need?

Take an educational podcast, like "Learn a language" or something. I personally enjoy "Learn Welsh Podcast."

I have like 20 Arabic review podcasts on there already... a couple music, law, and all the scripture masteries from Old Testament/New Testament in song version.

Arabic, huh? That's kinda cool... (I still think dead [or nearly dead] languages are better.)

How about made up languages such as the Tolkien elfish languages?

I would take Clayton Christensen's talk Decisions For Which I've Been Grateful because I think it's the best talk ever and everyone should love it, of course. My mom and I listen to devotionals driving to and from work (yay, carpooling) and it's a great way to start and end the work day. I'm not sure how it'll help with endless driving, though.

What do you like about them? (I'm curious because I've never understood the appeal of dead languages over living ones.)

Because it makes you feel special, and you can yell at people, and they're like "What?" And you're like "I just said I'm angry at you in a dead language" and then they're like "That's weird" but you're still feeling pretty cool that you can do something no one else can do. Or maybe it's just because I'm an immature high school student who's really nerdy?

I like NPR's It's All Politics, Newsweek On Air, Dr Drew's morning show, the Adam Carolla Show (crude but hilarious), KCRW's Left, Right, and Center, Sound Opinions on Chicago Public Radio (Awesome music nerd show), and a small one called "My History Can Beat Up Your Politics" about historical precedent of contemporary political issues. Very cool.

Do they have any "Learn Klingon" podcasts?

That's ridicules! Fifth most prevalent language, or a language no one speaks... hmm, wonder which one you would use more???

The only dead language that I would consider learning would be Latin, because I think the roots would help with my English comprehension.

I was very committed to the "Saying I love you in German sounds like you are swearing at them" thing, until I went to the German ward one day at the FLSR (accidentally). Ya know, at church it isn't that bad

Reminds me of that scene in one of the Matrices where the guy's swearing in French and it sounds gorgeous . . .

My favorite insult is pomme de terre. except that everyone I use it on starts laughing. I really need to learn to say potato in a language not many people know.

In German, you can call a potato an Erdapfel as well...also the same thing as pomme de terre! I love it when languages do that.

Papa! Mmmm, papitas....

Maybe I'm just bad at searching, but I actually don't like podcasts at all. It seems to be 50 minutes of talking and 3 minutes of music.

My favorite swear word is 'toothbrush' in Russian.

I like to tell my coworkers to "die forever" in Fijian when they sneeze. It sounds so sweet that they always thank me.
