Shameless self promotion
As many of you here may already know (or not, I have no idea how many of you actually know who I am in real life...) my husband had a stroke last year. Since there are very few (active) online communities for young stroke survivors and their caregivers, I started my own last week. I don't know if an...

Re: Gay family members
Example 1: My sister whose kids are 1, 5, and 7 has told me that she will allow my girlfriend to attend family events at her home, but she will never tell her kids that my girlfriend is my girlfriend, even if they ask. She plans to use the word "friend." I don't think anybody needs to ann...

Re: HB363
I just emailed the Governor's office through that link you provided, Katya. I'm surprised a bill like that made it through, even in Utah. I hope Herbert vetoes it.

1 Nephi 14:7 For the time cometh, saith the Lamb of God, that I will work a great and a marvelous work among the children of men; a work which shall be everlasting, either on the one hand or on the other—either to the convincing of them unto peace and life eternal, or unto the deliverance of them to...

I will most likely be there, not sure if Bad Astronaut will be able to attend though. I vote for enchiladas.

Re: Who of all These Parties are Right?
I had a dream this week about attending a BoardBoard party, so I'm taking this as a sign that I should probably attend. Saturday and Sunday evenings work best, but my schedule is pretty flexible for the next few weeks. I'll bring pie.

Marduk - I don't think that porn is inherently harmful (excluding child pornography, which exploits children), but I do recognize that any compulsive behavior has the potential to be harmful - whether that be a compulsion to look at naked women online or to eat a whole tub of ice cream when you're d...

Re: Sex Education in the Church
If we go slightly less stringent, and say that addiction is compulsive behavior following a trigger-response cycle that is detrimental to the person, then I think we have to say that porn is an addiction. I would amend your statement to say that porn can be addictive, not that "porn is an addi...

Re: Assuming someone is pregnant
I have kind of the opposite problem. I am pregnant, 20 weeks along (so halfway), am definitely showing and can only wear maternity clothes now, but it's still only a little bump, so I still get people saying, "Oh! I didn't realize you were pregnant!" And I want to say, "Really? You j...

As long as the girls are dressing modestly, I guess it doesn't matter too much why they're doing it. Right? I think it makes a difference. If a girl is dressing modestly because she has been taught that all men are perverted and have no self control, then her perceptions about men and even about he...

Re: twin " reductions"
I didn't mean to imply that pregnancy was not traumatic and stressful in many ways. I just felt like the Black Sheep's point about pregnancy being physically, financially, and emotionally traumatic made it sound like abortion was an easy out of all of those issues. I wanted to point out that it can...

Re: twin " reductions"
First of all, abortion also takes a large physical , pyschological , and financial toll on women. Not only that, but many women go into abortion without being properly informed about what the abortion will be like, how it will affect them psychologically and physically, what the child's development...

Re: Sex Education in the Church
I don't ever remember being taught that we were in families before earth. I don't really believe that we were, there are too many teachings that fly in the face of that thought for me. I do believe that some people may have chosen their families beforehand, but I doubt most of us did. This is why I...

Re: Sex Education in the Church
I like this article, but one thing bothered me about this — some kids will feel comfortable enough to ask all these questions. I know I didn't, and my parents never talked to me about sex. Maybe they were just waiting for me to ask? In a related subject— has anyone ever participated in a discussion...

As always, I agree with Black Sheep 100%. You can't fix this. I hope your friend seeks professional help before things get worse. as for the unprotected sex, she's being an idiot and letting this man take advantage of her. if she won't listen to you because you're a mormon/virgin, pass this message ...

Re: Sex Education in the Church
i never wanted to talk to my dad about periods or anything. without my mom, i would've been doomed. I think you make a very good point here, especially since there are certain things which are best explained by someone of the same gender. Some things are just so much better (and make more sense) wh...
