I had a beard at BYU in the 1969-1970 time frame. It was not against the rules, and no one hassled me for it...that is until I wanted to come home for the summer. My parents asked me to shave it off so that I wouldn't be a bad influence on my younger brothers and sisters.
Anyway, interesting opinions in the answers given to this question.
