Hey, if you're reading this, I almost thought I was reading about myself for much of that post! You aren't alone in your INFP'ness! Or how you feel about Gandhi's quote! I hope you find your way to this message board, because we need more voices like ours.

I dislike your Åšiva, nor do I like your Hindus. Your Hindus are so like your Åšiva.
Sorry. Just a little flame, there. I suspect that Ghandi wasn't terribly familiar with Christ. Because many things that Christ did/taught were contrary to Ghandi's philosophies (murder: Gen. 38:7–10, Num. 16:31–35, 2 Sam. 6:6–7; Acts 5:1–11, &c.; genocide: Gen. 7, Gen. 19:24–25, Num. 31:1–7, Deut. 7:1–5*, Judg. 20:35, 1 Sam. 15:3, &c.; whipped people he disagreed with: Jn. 2:14–17; cursed a living thing which displeased him: Mt. 21:18–20, Mk. 11:12–14 and 20–21; encouraged the use of weapons for defense: Lk. 22:35–38; promised vengeance: Ezek. 25:12–17, Micah 5:10–15, Rom. 12:19; &c.). Either that or Gandhi was picking and choosing what he liked and ignoring the rest (which is not uncommon).
*The Israelites were commanded to do this but never actually did (see Judg. 1).

Ehhh, first off, most of your OT references apply to Jehovah, which I doubt Gandhi ever correlated with Christ.Damasta wrote:I dislike your Åšiva, nor do I like your Hindus. Your Hindus are so like your Åšiva.

Also, I see little in Gandhi's teachings that are at major odds with the life and teachings of Christ. I'd go so far as to say his nonviolence and Christ's are remarkably similar. While Christ did "whip people he disagreed with" (not sure I would have phrased it that way...), he also taught "do unto others as you would have others do unto you". While Gandhi taught total nonviolence in India's resistance to British rule, he also urged Indians to fight in WWI, stating "To bring about such a state of things we should have the ability to defend ourselves, that is, the ability to bear arms and to use them...If we want to learn the use of arms with the greatest possible despatch {sic}, it is our duty to enlist ourselves in the army."
At a close study, it is remarkable the similarities to be found between Hinduism and Mormonism.
He who knows others is clever;
He who knows himself has discernment.
He who overcomes others has force;
He who overcomes himself is strong. 33:1-4

I don't know why he wouldn't—the majority of Christians do. The only exception I can think of is the Jehovah's Witnesses. I think it's safe to say that his conceptions of Christ and Christianity were based on the view held by the majority, since he'd be more likely to come in contact with that view.Tao wrote:Ehhh, first off, most of your OT references apply to Jehovah, which I doubt Gandhi ever correlated with Christ.
Yes, but that can be said of all the major religions (defining "religion" loosely so that Confucianism, &c. can be included) and probably a great many of the minor ones.Tao wrote:At a close study, it is remarkable the similarities to be found between Hinduism and Mormonism.
