Creepy or meh?

Post by TheAnswerIs42 »

Every night I read my kids a story and say prayers with them on my son's twin bed, and then my daughter scampers off to her toddler bed for the night. But now, for reasons only known to a toddler mind, my two year old daughter has recently decided she wants to spend every night in the twin bed, with my poor four year old son. (He doesn't complain about things, but I did notice that she hogs the covers.) And a baby doll that she brings in and tucks between them. My husband says I should put a stop to this, because it is rather creepy and not a good thing to encourage. I think it is hilarious, and I'm fairly sure she will outgrow it long before either of them are aware of "sleeping with my sibling" sort of stuff.

So, since I found out recently that polls to settle silly marital differences of opinion are fun, what say ye? Creepy (put a stop to it before it before it becomes a habit), or meh (they are so young, let them do what they want)?

Uh. I fell asleep in my brother's bed sometimes when I was much older than that, or we would fall asleep on the couches or on the floor while watching movies. And we both now have happy healthy relationships with our respective spouses. I don't see anything creepy about that at all.

When I was younger I would occasionally sleep in my brother's full size bed. It wasn't a regular thing, but then again I was five, making him fifteen which is a bit odd looking back. And I'm fairly certain that it annoyed him, but since I only saw him four or five days a month he put up with me.

At ages two and four? Not weird at all. Ages eight and ten? Now we're getting creepier. Ages fourteen and sixteen? Now we're getting Yikes McYikerson.

One thing that has been an issue in my family is the inability of my youngest two sisters to sleep without the other or another sister with them. While they are perfectly capable of falling asleep without this comfort, they refuse to. This habit is one that my parent's have been trying to break for a long time and do regret allowing to begin. I do think this has been solved somewhat by my family having enough beds for all the kids at home now that two of us have moved out.

Not creepy. And probably not something you will have to worry about for too much longer, because they will soon enter the stage of "the opposite sex is icky and I don't want them getting their cooties on me".

It's good to know what other family cultures are like, but don't let that make your husband seem weird?

Co-sleeping and family-sleeping are actually fairly common practices. Heck, if you wanted, you could even find research to show your husband that it can be healthy for their development. (Not creepy.) But I think it's most importantly a family decision. If it causes problems between you and your husband, perhaps you should just stop it.

[shrug] I think it's just fine. But I doubt your husband cares what I think.

Well, when I was two, I insisted in sleeping in the twin bed and my big brother patiently took the crib- I doubt many four-year-old boys are willing to do that, though . . .
