Yeah, that blurb on Deseret has to be one of the most poorly written and historically inaccurate things I've seen posted on NPR in recent memory. Shameful that it got posted on the internet, let alone published in a book and cited on the internet. Woof.

which part did you disagree with? seemed to be pretty close, a bit tongue in cheek for sure. i chuckled.

Yeah, I think it's pretty funny. It reminds me of Dave Barry's blurb on Utah in his "Only Travel Guide You'll Ever Need." Not 100% accurate by any means, but the exaggeration is what gives it its humor.

A short, humorous article like this will lead a lot of people look up more information on the real history. In the same way it piqued my interest in Translyvania, it will pique other people's interest in Deseret, and probably Mormon history.

Apparently in my efforts to pretend to take it too seriously like the first rabid commenters on the NPR site, I appeared to actually take it too seriously. I blame text for being an inferior form of communication.
