This sort of post boosting is frowned upon. Just so you know that the rules haven't changed. ;)
And yet that didn't stop certain admins from spam posting in the admin forums to up their post count...

That was a long time ago, and I'm sure everyone involved has learned their lesson.

Learned their lesson? Perhaps. But are they still profiting from ill-gotten posts?

Let's compare some numbers.* From these, we can determine just who is abusing admin priviledges to artificially augment post count.

User/reported post count/visible post count (i.e., posts not on admin only forums)/percentage of posts visible to public

Bobtheenchantedone / 2231 / 1647 / 73.8%
Fredjikrang / 1617 / 923 / 57%
C Is For / 433 / 375 / 86.6%
Ahem / 541 / 140 / 25.9%
Chillygator / 260 / 173 / 66.5%

Now we see who the true culprits are. I demand a recount!

* Numbers accurate as of May 12 2010, 10:45 A.M. MST

Hey, I am doing pretty well!

Mostly I just use admin discussion to gossip and talk shop.

I have that many posts on the admin board? No, that's not possible. That can't be right!
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

On reflection, I think the posts also refer to those topics since deleted. Because I've tried to look at people's posts before and they have 2 but I can't see any. I don't know.

I think you're right, C4. Fredji has done some pruning of topics before.

A post once deleted will affect the display of their actual posts, not the post count. Also, it does not include private messages.

Just a clarification, if we're no longer using deleted posts as criterium:

Total number of posts, omitting defunct or deleted posts. Included, for completeness, is "displayed" post number, in parentheses.

Giovanni Schwartz: 1751 (1860)
Nanti-SARRMM: 1809 (1958)
Portia: 506 (1054)
Vorpal Blade: 806 (786) (NO idea how that works, but that's what the site reports)
Bismark: 419 (647)
Yellow M&M: 544 (559)
Unit of Energy: 477 (520)

Included for transparency:

Marduk: 340 (330) (Again, not sure why it is displaying higher. I guess Vorpal and I are just special.)

I'm still confused.

I see many people who are listed as having a number of posts, but sometimes none of them can be found. Were the posts all deleted somehow?

And how is it that my post count is 786 (as I write this), but when I click on "Find all posts of vorpal blade" there are 806 matches?

What does not include private messages?

That looks to be the case. Apparently Fred pruned the board before leaving (pretty extensively, from the looks of it) and it still includes those deleted posts in the total count.

Honestly, I'm not sure. You and I appear to be the only posters (at least, with relatively high numbers; I haven't searched everyone, just the top posters) for whom this is the case.
vorpal blade wrote:What does not include private messages?
Neither number. As far as I can tell, the site keeps no record (or at least no record available with my limited powers) of how many private messages a member has recieved. Anywhere.

I know this one!

You know how sometimes the site is dumb and won't let you post? So you try again, and again, pressing the submit button over and over hoping that one of them will magically work and your say will be said?

Every one of those counts as a new post for you. None of us can see them, not even on the admin level, but apparently it goes toward your post count. I know vorpal has done this a lot.

So apparently the site has it coded to tick up the post count before coding to actually put it up? Seems silly to me. But, that certainly could be the case; I know especially with the longer posts it struggles to accept the post; this would explain why it most frequently happens to Vorpal and I.

Wow, did I just use to semicolons in the same sentence? I must be training to be an academic, or something like that.

Marduk, you wrote that you had 330 (340) posts. I had 806 (786). Did you mix up your two numbers, putting the wrong one of the pair in parenthesis?

Well, sometimes I have tried to post and something goes wrong, so I try it again. I wouldn't exactly say that I am hoping it will "magically" work. Usually persistence pays off. Just out of curiosity, C is for, how can you tell that I have done that, since no record is kept of it? Is this secret admin stuff?
