How would this look?

Post by thebigcheese »

I seem be lacking in girly-girls at the moment, so maybe y'all can offer some opinions on this. I'm planning my wedding, and I really like colors like this: http://affordableutahweddings.com/wp-co ... pieces.jpg

So picture this:

For the brothers (since we're not doing bridesmaids/groomsmen), they all wear white shirts and dark-colored suit vests, with either marigold or salmon ties and a matching boutonniere. No jacket. And dark pants that match the vest.
The groom would have the same tie and vest combo, but he would have a tux jacket...and a pocket square that matches the tie (but maybe no boutonniere?).

I love pocket squares...

Does that sound okay? Here are my concerns. I've never seen anyone do boutonnieres on a vest, so I don't know what to think about that. I'm also not sure about the pocket square/boutonniere combination for the groom, as I've never seen that done either. And all the pictures I can find from tux places match the tie to the vest, but I think the contrasting colors might look cooler. What do you think?

Those bright colors are really fun - I like them a lot. Maybe instead of worrying about boutonnieres, you should do pocket squares for all the guys. Just make the groom's a different color, or have one with a fun pattern, like this: http://www.robertredd.com/itemimages/Po ... efs119.jpg

I like the orange one with the circle/dots pattern. Orange is a total win. And contrasting colors can be lots of fun, I say go for it!

I'm pretty sure I have a friend who has worn a boutonniere on a vest. I don't know if it's socially acceptable or not, he is one of those people who plays with social norms and no one cares. But I thought it looked good.

Yeah, but the vests I've seen don't have pockets...and I'm REALLY digging the vests-only thing for the brothers.

Men, take note: Get yourself a three-piece suit and remove your jacket whenever you get the chance. Suit vests are HOT! (In my opinion...)

Love it. And the vests-only idea is awesome. I've seen boutonnieres on vests before and it looks good.
