I keep only being brave in miniscule ways when I want to be brave in a big way.

I really like the idea of this thread, but every time I look at it, the bravest things I can think of are 'getting out of bed' or 'driving to the post office.' Lame.

Why does being brave have to be quantified? There are some days when getting out of bed *is* really brave and others when it's just a routine or even something exciting. I've been managing to freak myself out by overanalyzing some things I've been challenged to do lately, so I'm being brave by not thinking about things first. Consequently, on Tuesday I took treats and a thank-you card to the fire station and I just barely called the girl I visit teach who I haven't met even though I've been assigned to visit teach her for two months now. I left a message, but I know I'll be brave and call her back tomorrow if I don't hear from her.
And on Monday getting out of bed *was* brave for me because I woke up feeling disgusting but I promised someone I would call them at 7:30- so I bravely got out of bed to make the call. Yay me!

i work with middle school children at a school known for gang violence.

but my friend works at a school where kids who have committed violent crimes go. HE is brave, in my opinion. so are people who work with special needs kids. i couldn't do that, and i appreciate the work they do.

Honestly, every time I look at this thread, I think of things I could write if I had actually done them. And then I get sad at how unaccomplished I am, which is the opposite of what it is supposed to do. It was supposed to help me evaluate and feel good about things I've done, and then share them with others so we can celebrate them together.

But when the #1 bravest thing I actually did is so far down on the list of possible brave things I could have done...

Well.

I think that sometimes admitting you aren't who you wish you were is brave. I know that the hardest thing for me to do is admit that I'm not the perfect sweet quirky person people seem to always see.

The bravest thing I did today was get up with my son, who woke up screaming at 1:30 a.m., just as I was getting ready to go to bed after a long night of work, and let Sauron sleep.

He's very good about getting up with the baby, by the way.

I went to the post office and made the guy sell me pretty stamps for the invites to my little sister's baby shower. He was really insistent that I should get the forever stamps.

I picked these:

I went to a party where I knew only one person- the very busy bride. And I was one of the only white people there. Also, my hand is now covered in henna.

On a related note, I think the Indian sari is the most beautiful clothing in the world.

I'm giving my farewell talk and playing the organ. And I feel like crap and want to throw up.

I stood up to my boss today and it didn't result in me being fired. Yet...

I walked around my house (which includes my room) in the dark.

In case you're wondering, about 15 minutes after that post, I did expel the contents of my stomach rather violently through my mouth. Four times. And then had to go give my talk anyway.

The bravest thing I did yesterday was take initiative to call my boss about something.

Then last night I felt brave for sleeping without my stuffed Goggy. It was tough, but I did it (though my dreams were crazy weird intense).

I helped babysit 4 kids (ok, 1 was mine) while trying to make a denim quilt.
