Okay, this is awesome. Go here: http://www.iwl.me/ and paste a few paragraphs of something you've written, and it will tell you who you write like. This is what it says for me:
-a journal entry: Stephen King
-one of my Daily Universe articles (that's a whole story I'll have to tell sometime): H. P. Lovecraft
-my letter to the editor about swimsuits: David Foster Wallace
-part of my med school application essay: David Foster Wallace
-the introduction to my senior thesis: Edgar Allan Poe
I write like...
Re: I write like...
Oh I tried this a while ago. But I used an overt Harry Potter fanfiction excerpt for my story bit so it told me, of course, that I write like J.K. Rowling.
With a different story (Doctor Who fanfiction this time): Mark Twain
An old Basic Conducting Paper: David Foster Wallace
A blog post: Margaret Atwood
A piece of original fiction: Jane Austen
My Creative Writing essay: Arthur Clarke
And my creative writing autobiographical fragment, which I personally think is one of my best pieces of work: Cory Doctorow
And I'm done looking for things I've written. What fun!

Deat Cat: Douglas Adams wrote the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where my 'nym is from. You should give his books a read next time you are in the mood for absurd randomness.
I, like C4, made the early mistake of putting in Harry Potter fanfiction and getting JK Rowling back. Um, thanks?
Blog post: Cory Doctorow, whoever that is.
I would try again, but I don't actually write anything else lately.

Cory Doctorow is one of the bloggers on Boing Boing, a well-known champion of creative commons and copyright issues, a science-fiction author, and the guy you see in the occasional xkcd comic who goes around in a hot air balloon, red cape, and goggles.

My answer on explosions: Arthur Clarke
My answer on the existence of God: Edgar Allen Poe (ha!)
My encrypted dating-app message: Ernest Hemingway
My answer on how much I hate the Red Sux: David Foster Wallace
Dating Olympics: Cory Doctorow
My Rubik's Cube answer: Dan Brown (gross!)
Ewok roomie: Stephen King
My thesis on three-dimensional gravity-wave theory: Edgar Allen Poe
I tried many many other pieces of writing but kept getting these same dudes (mostly David Foster Wallace! Go me!)
Should I feel weird that I wasn't compared to a single female writer?
@Dead Cat, David Foster Wallace is the author of Infinite Jest which is considered one of the greatest novels of all time. So, you know, be flattered, or whatever.

Re: I write like...
My favorite books by Chuck Palahnuik are Fight Club and Lullaby. He's a bit of a more obscure writer, but once you discover him, you realize how talented he really is. I probably wouldn't have given his books a try if it hadn't been for my brother absolutely insisting that I do (and my brother is an extremely casual reader but absolutely loves anything by Chuck Palahniuk).Emiliana wrote:Short story #2: Chuck Palahniuk (I don't know who this is, but I think this short story is some of my best writing.)

Blog post: Cory Doctorow
Etsy listings: Dan Brown
An unedited NaNoWriMo novel: Annie Rice (I'm guessing that's Anne Rice; there are other typos on the site)
Notes for a novel: Douglas Adams
Another unedited NaNo novel: Stephanie Meyer
A fake news article posted on my blog: Arthur Clarke
A short story posted on my blog: H. P. Lovecraft
The authors who write like my Etsy listings and my NaNo first drafts amuse me.

The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.
