Attention fellow piemakers

Post by Darth Fedora »

Did you know that instead of brushing butter on your pie crusts to brown them, you can just spray Pam or canola oil on instead? It is so much easier than melting butter and brushing it on, and I did not notice any differences in browning or flavor.
Save yourselves the hassle of cleaning congealed butter out of your pastry brushes!

Are you using hair brushes? I've been looking into getting some of those new-fangled silicone brushes, and I'm curious to hear someone's experience with them.

I've never used a natural hair brush, but I have used both nylon fiber and silicone brushes. I wouldn't say I prefer one over the other, but the silicone ones are definitely a lot easier to clean, and I think a lot of them are dishwasher-safe, which is sweet. You can get them for like five bucks, so I say go for it!

I thought the silicone brushes wouldn't hold the liquid very well, but the few times I've used them it hasn't been a problem.

So I guess I'm favoring the silicon brushes now?
