Re: Random Maids a'Milking!

Post by vorpal blade »

A long time ago I heard someone say something like this, "I thought I was perfect until I got married." I've thought about it now and again over the years. It seems quite profound and true to me. But what exactly does it mean? That's one of the interesting things to me; it seems to mean different things to different people. It could mean, as krebscout seems to have thought, that some wives will put us in our place, will criticize us and put us down, will harp and nag and belittle in order to control us. And not all wives do that. On the other hand Emiliana points out the positive side, that marriage can teach us...well, she said it better than I can. Thank you, Emiliana, for thinking of me in the positive aspect.

I did a google search for the phrase "I thought I was perfect until I got married." I found these quotes, I think illustrating the two aspects of the meaning.
I thought I was perfect...until I got married. ;) It's hard to be humble, but God puts people in our lives (spouses included) to shape us, mold us, and get us down from the pedestal we've sometimes put ourselves on. We'll be married 25 years this December, and it's still a learning process to humble myself, listen, and really hear what the other person is saying (without me jumping in to tell him how right I am). But it's a process worth taking stake in and making a practice of. We come out the beneficiary (and the other person is pretty happy about it too!).
God said that it wasn't good that man should be alone so he gave him a mate. I know what that means now.

I thought I was perfect until I got married. Then my husband told me all my faults.

My second husband didn't tell me my faults but he was a charitable man and I tried to be like him. Yet he was a drunk.

I endured many years with him because our friend told me what to do with a lemon. He said make lemon aid out of it.

So squeezed my lemon gave him sugar and made lemon aid. And my years with him were more endurable.

I started looking for his good side and reminded him that he had it. And we treated each other better.

Everyone changes no one stands still.
I thought I was perfect until I got married, and learned I had issues too Ronin. Might I suggest you get hitched, and your wife will help you with any issues you have. Even if you think you do not have any.

Just a thought.
I thought i was perfect until I got married...he he he he .

I feel like I'm in a doctor's office, reading Reader's Digest.

Funnier since I just got back from the dentist. I have very pretty teeth (which they say every time, but usually add a qualifier like "except for all these cavities" or "you really need to start flossing," so I feel accomplished).

Vorpal, your new picture is throwing me off. I was starting to imagine that you look like Sean Connery in real life...

Sorry. I posted Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf's picture because someone said that he looked exactly like Sean Connery. I wanted to see if anyone would notice the difference and comment on it.

Here is another Sean Connery picture. We aim to please you.

I wouldn't say he looks "exactly" like Sean Connery...he's like a middle-eastern version of Sean Connery.

I noticed, Vorpal, I just didn't say anything. Personally, the only time I imagine you as Sean Connery is when I need a laugh; it is funny to me to hear serious political points made with a thick Scottish accent. I just hope I never get into a political debate with a Scotsman, or I might be in trouble for continually snickering. Aren't they supposed to have infamous tempers?

Anyway, I think thebigcheese's assessment of the resemblance is an accurate one. Akmed Connery, perhaps?

I am home alone right now. My husband took the kids to his mom's house and . . . I can't remember the last time I was in the house all by myself without toddlers to think about. This is creepy.

On a positive note, my blog is more caught up now . . . and I listened to the podcast while I was working on that so that I could feel like there were people in the house.

That's funny. I never thought how the image I chose would be associated that way with what I said.

Curiously, while I didn't think of the message I might be sending using Sean Connery's image, I have had thoughts associating the image you use, Che Guevara, with what you say. Just as I was ignorant of your associations with Sean Connery, I think you may not know my associations with the imge of Che Guevara. I realize that for some people Che Guevara is a hero, someone who "represented the idea of gallantry, chivalry, and adventure," as said by author Graham Greene.

For others, however, Che Guevara is a polarizing figure. They view him as a cold-blooded killer, who inspired "brutal militarism and internecine conflict" (see Wikipedia article). British historian Hugh Thomas summed up Che Guevara as a "brave, sincere and determined man who was also obstinate, narrow, and dogmatic." They say that Guevara used his rigid power to suppress dissent, and that he became "convinced of the virtues of violence for its own sake." This negative view of Che Guevara is the one I have, so you can imagine the association I have of your avatar with what you say.

I know what you mean. I've had my house to myself now for almost three weeks.

Who has the ability to change our ... taglines? Is that what you'd call it? The line that on mine says, "The Other Token Non-Mormon." I guess I'd always assumed that people put those on their own profiles until one appeared on mine a few weeks ago. Not that I mind my tagline, I'm just curious how it got there.

That would be your "rank." Many message boards have them set to automatically update it when you reach a certain number of posts to indicate how active you are in the forum or if you have any special powers (like admin, moderator, etc.). We don't do that; the admins just set them to say whatever you request or whatever we feel like. We mostly just think they're funny. If you want it to be something else, just let us know.

Any of the admins. I happen to know that Bob put that tagline on there. She's not exactly the most....surreptitious.

I decided a while back I would watch and see if I ever became the highest ranking person (by number of posts) that doesn't have a tagline in the "rank" spot. I finally made it, recently. :)

No.

I thought about it a long time ago, and had no ideas about what to put there. I think I like being just 42.

Hahahahahaha

Anyway, I'm not going to go to bed tonight. Maybe I'll take a two hour nap from 1 to 3, then go to work at 4. This is all in an effort to have no school related responsibilities when my family comes into town this weekend.
