First appeared in newspapers 25 years ago today. And the world became a little more awesome.

Re: Calvin and Hobbes
My favorite high school English teacher loved Calvin and Hobbes and encouraged her students to read it, to the point of having several collections in the room for students to read during the reading time at the beginning of the class. She loved that they could learn more vocabulary words from that comic than from pretty much any young adult novel you cared to name.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.
Re: Calvin and Hobbes
My brother learned to read by reading Calvin and Hobbes comics. He was struggling with reading, generally, and the stories he was learning to read were also dead boring, so he wasn't very motivated. BUT, we had some Calvin and Hobbes collections around the house and those were interesting and funny enough that he was motivated to learn to read them.

Re: Calvin and Hobbes
Heh, I thought I was going to surprise my husband with this fun fact, but apparently he already knows it. Today is also my husband's 25th birthday, and he LOVES Calvin and Hobbes. So they were born on the same day! How cool is that?

Re: Calvin and Hobbes
And why exactly has no one mentioned Hobbes?
