What exactly does "editorial" mean?

Does "editorial cartoon" or "editorial illustration" have to be political, or can it be any cartoon/illustration that you'd find in a magazine?

I would include anything that expresses an opinion. It doesn't have to be a political opinion, though. You could make fun of Kanye West, for example, and that would be an editorial cartoon.

The "editorial section" is usually the one with all the opinionated letters from people, as well as the political cartoons. So I would have to agree that editorial = anything that expresses an opinion/perspective.
