Does anyone have a testimony/understanding of the importance of wearing garments at night?
I'm a married woman, and I'm having a hard time with this. I don't see why I can't wear whatever I want to bed every night when it's just my husband and I behind closed doors. The only reason I wear my garments to bed is so that I can get a temple recommend.
Any advice?

Because wearing the garment isn't just about keeping you modest. It doesn't matter who you're with or not with. The garment is about a commitment to God. It's a reminder of the covenants you made. You don't leave those commitments and covenants outside the bedroom door every night. You take them with you always.

The way I see it, there are two ways of looking at this question: "I don't like garments and I don't want to wear them because something else is more comfortable" or "I wear lingerie (or nothing) when I'm intimate with my husband and sometimes we fall asleep before we put our garments back on."
Perhaps the answer is the same for both scenarios...

Good answer, Dragon Lady. Let me just add that on the other hand it isn't necessary to wear the garment during every activity. But you are quite right, we should wear the garment day and night.

As for wearing garments during more intimate moments, there's an answer for that: http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/16992/
I swear there was another one by Optimus Prime about falling asleep without putting your garments back on… but I can't seem to find it.

I talked to my new bishop, and he said it's fine if I don't wear garments to bed. Garments aren't meant to interfere with intimacy between husband and wife.

I don't know why I missed this question the first time around, but my mom doesn't wear her garments to bed because she's got some major sleep-related issues and there's a very short list of clothing that she can actually manage to sleep in, and garments aren't on that list. It's never interfered with her having a temple recommend.

Garments aren't meant to interfere with intimacy. I don't think anyone was saying that. I interpreted your original question as asking about pajamas. A normal, change clothes, go to sleep kind of night. Not an intimate kind of night. For example, garments under lingerie would look ridiculous. It's perfectly ok to not wear garments when being intimate. But if you're just going to sleep, I think (personal opinion here) that garments should still be worn. In the temple recommend interview, you agree to wear them day and night. NerdGirl's mother would, I think, be an exception, as it is a medical condition.LL7 wrote:I talked to my new bishop, and he said it's fine if I don't wear garments to bed. I specifically asked my bishop about never wearing them to bed, and he said that's fine. To me, wearing them interferes with enjoying the intimate moments of cuddling/spooning each night.
