I think that a lot of what I'd want to hear has probably been said by someone, at some point, but it doesn't seem to sink in.

I would like to hear a Mormon Mythbusters talk in General Conference. Just have someone go down the list and debunk all of the crazy things we seem to come up with in the church. Things like having to wear your garments when you shower, the idea you can't be a good Mormon if you're a member of certain political parties, etc.

Ha. One of my roommates and I had a discussion yesterday in which he basically said it is our covenant obligation to vote as God would have us vote -- basically for Tea Party ideals. He backed up his opinion with scripture (mainly the baptismal covenant to stand as a witness of God). When I responded with scriptures of my own (mainly against preemptive warfare and giving to the poor), he said that it was my interpretation and I ought to reexamine my political affiliation and choose what God would have me do. When I said that's what I thought I was doing, he testified that I am wrong and wouldn't hear anything else about it. *Facepalm*

I suppose I'll have to vote for Sarah Palin now.

This isn't about Conference so much as Sunday School and church in general, but I often find myself wishing for more specific, direct teachings for Christ rather than a general "Follow Christ's example" message. His parables and lessons can be pretty intense, and sometimes they tell us what we should do in very specific situations, and I don't feel like I've ever learned them outside of personal scripture study. I wish my son's books about Jesus were more specific, too.

Is this the same roommate who was acting like he was the new prophet a few months ago, or do you live with more than one "interesting" guy?

Oh no, I live with more than one interesting guy (two to be precise), but the one from this anecdote and the one from the former ones are the same.
