Wheel of Time

Post by Dragon Lady »

Rule #1: You may only talk about Eye of the World in this thread. No other Wheel of Time talk allowed. :) That is, until I read more.

So. I need help. Here's the deal. The last book of the series comes out in about a year. I've just finished reading the first book of 12 (currently).

My options are (short versions in poll):
A) I could read approx. one per month and be done just in time for the last one to come out.
B) Read them fast now so I don't go crazy in wonder, then have more time for Yellow and I to speculate about what the last book will hold.

Any other Eye of the World discussion is welcome, too. Though Yellow tells me that it's difficult to remember what happens in which book thanks to flashbacks and such, so if you're not sure about if something is in there, I'd greatly appreciate not talking about it. :)

No offense to the WoT fans out there, but I found that books 2-8 were pretty much the same book...just with different names for the taverns. Same plot every time. I stopped half way through book 8, and I've been jaded toward fantasy ever since.

So you could probably just read one book out of the middle and get the gist of the whole thing. That's not exactly the answer you're looking for, though, so...I say pace yourself and do one a month. You'll get burned out if you try to sprint through those books.

I say binge. I go crazy trying to hold myself back when it comes to books (hence why I don't touch Harry Potter until Christmas).

Correction, Dragon Lady: There are 13 books, currently. The final book will be #14.

Wait... I don't understand. Those only take about 16 hours of straight reading for the longest of them. Nothing you can't knock out on any given Saturday, with enough motivatinon. ;)

You're right, of course. I forgot you don't have the last one yet since it's not in paperback. I was just counting what's on the shelf.

I don't particularly care what you do, but I also have only read the first one. Can we read them at the same time?

Sure! This is, of course, assuming we read at the same pace. I don't know that I can promise to stop and wait if you read slower and I decide to binge. :)

The first book only took me a while since I read it while I had no time to spare. Right now, I still don't have a ton of time on my hands, but I can generally force myself when I want to and there aren't any big tests that need taking. But before I get back into WoT, there's a couple of books on my plate that I need to read before I have to give them back to the library. For some reason, these two books seem to be off the shelves more than they're on them, and as I'm not sure when my next chance to obtain them are, I should read them now.

As for speed, I usually finish books in a night--two, maybe three if they're either freakishly long (like The Way of Kings) or I'm trying to be good and practicing restraint. So, after looking at the word counts, I'd say I could probably read 1 to 3 a week, depending on the book and the week. I might get a little fuzzy-brained after a while, though...

Well, I just finished the 2nd book. (Sorry Dead Cat, I just remembered today that I was supposed to let you know what I decided to do. But I never really decided. I just started reading the 2nd book. But now I have to take a break for at least a day or two. But then again, I said that last time, too.)

Ugh.

Meh, whatever. I still haven't gotten around to reading the other books on my plate (trying to be good and all that) so I'll probably end up reading WoT2 a while from now.

In case anyone cares, I've done about 2 books per month. Not as fast as humanly possible, but definitely more than one per month. So I guess I chose a happy medium. :)
