Personally, I'm not comfortable in skirts that rise above my knees AT ALL when sitting. I've owned several of these skirts in the past, always thinking that this one will work. And without fail, I end up getting rid of them because I'm just not comfortable pulling them down all the time. It's even worse now that I have a toddler that likes to crawl all over me, with no thought as to maybe she might be pulling up my skirt.

Above the bottom of the knee or above the middle of the knee? (Not that I care so dearly about how long your skirts are, but it sounds like you don't mean what I would mean by 3" above the knee.)

Y'know, I've actually thought a lot about this. (Or at least, a similar topic.) While in Jerusalem I listened to a talk by… shoot… some olden-days prophet that was very opinionated that basically said that girls that showed their knees were vile sinners. I talked to several people about it to get opinions, because, well, he was a prophet (actually, I think he was an apostle at the time that later became a prophet) and that was a rather… bold… statement. One friend told me that, in her family, no one ever showed their kneecaps after they were endowed because we are instructed to wear the garment "over" the knee. In her family, they interpreted that to mean over, as in, covering. She also stressed that this was her family's interpretation only and in no way was I to think that it was the only interpretation.

But it has given me pause over the years since. If someone told me to put my hand over my ear or over my elbow, I'd cover it with my hand. I wouldn't place my hand above it. To buy garments that fit, they lie over, as in above, my knee.

My point here isn't to debate whether or not garments or any other clothing should cover or be above the knee, but rather to emphasize Katya's point that the knee provides a very vague reference.

you know what? I've been measuring this sitting down. Standing up it would probably come an inch above the top of the knee. Sitting down it's three inches from the top of the knee.

And my boyfriend, who watched me measure this time, has a strong opinion that it's gotta cover the knee or it's not modest, whether or not garments are showing. I love it when I pick well.

I like to wear skirts that are long enough that I won't show anyone my underwear if my legs pop open when I'm sitting down, which works out to be a length that's about 6 inches longer than my garments (I just measured, because I'm a nerd!). I actually mostly have dresses, not skirts, and any that are shorter than that I wear as tops (maybe... sometimes... with LEGGINGS! actually usually over jeans or black pants). I'm just really paranoid about accidentally showing my underwear when I sit down. I think it comes from an incident that happened in high school where a girl in our class was in the front row of the school picture, which was sitting on a bench, and she was wearing a short skirt with no underwear, and she happened to have her legs open at the moment the photographer snapped the picture. It was graphic enough that we had to get the picture redone, but apparently not graphic enough that anyone actually noticed before they handed out the picture to our entire class. It was really bad. Bad enough that she changed schools.

Maybe I just have really short thighs...but my garments come down to the top of my knee when standing. Actually, if I'm wearing the spandex kind, I could pull them well below my knee. Those things are LONG.

It probably has to do with types of garments, size of garments and length of thighs.
