I debated whether I should use 'your' or 'our' because I learned the words from listening to it and it's impossible to be sure which word it is. I chose 'your' because that is the one I sing. However, since you looked it up, I decided to look it up also. Out of thirteen different sources for the lyrics, I found eight that said 'your,' three that said 'our,' and two that said 'their.' So I think I'm still in the game.

On another note, I don't think we should be looking up other people's lyrics to see if they are wrong. Looking up lyrics to use as your entry is cheating, so why should we be able to look them up for the purposes of calling out others?

Bob, are you saying that no one should check the lyrics? I had a hunch and I checked it out--you already used the song, so it wasn't like I could use it, even if I was still playing. I've only looked up other people's lyrics when I thought it was done differently and I've spoken up when I was right and kept my mouth shut when I was wrong.

This does bring up the question as to how we make sure that we aren't making mistakes. I know some of us (including myself) tend to look up the lyrics right after we post our entry (although I haven't done so every single time). Should we make it obligatory for everyone to check their own work? Do we designate someone to check everyone else's work? Do we ignore errors altogether? Some other option I haven't thought of?

I'm assuming we're trying to play this game as close to the actual in-person game as much as possible. And in an in-person game of Encore, lyrics are not checked after every round. Someone will challenge if they know the words sung are incorrect, but aside from that we assume they're right. So yes, I am saying that no one should check the lyrics. I think that these rounds would have been a lot shorter if there was someone making sure the lyrics were correct. It's too easy to use a similar word or remember something incorrectly.

Yes, but the fact that we're stretching each game over several days, with up to 24 hours to think of each song already significantly changes the nature of the game. The idea behind the rule that you have to get the words right is to create a minimum threshold for how well you have to know the song to use it (since the amount of time you have to think of a song is very generous).

However, if you've heard a song many times and have misheard a word or two in a way that doesn't significantly change the meaning of the song (i.e., isn't a true Mondegreen), I agree with the argument that it shouldn't be penalized.

Dead Cat is, of course, the final judge for this round, but maybe we should have a group discussion between rounds to see what everyone thinks is fair.
