No, that's the 100 Hour Board.
Well played.

I agree with this sentiment. Since our comments are very restricted on the 100 Hour Board itself, I like to think of this as an extended comment forum. We are free to share our opinions without fear of having them rejected.

I want to explore the other side's reasoning or at least convey another line of reasoning to get a discussion on it started. If that constitutes "hate," then I'm a hater.
I think that's a perfectly legit reason to bring a question here. I often play devil's advocate on things, for the simple purpose of exploring the other side of the argument. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. However, you are the only one who knows your intention. So depending on how you word it, it could be construed as hate. I think a great way to help prevent that is to write your thing here, then before you post it, stop and think, "If I had written that answer and someone posted this, would I see it as criticism or constructive criticism?"

Goulash

Locker Room Soap
Independence from Parents

Polyjuiced Pregnancy
Pascal's Wager
Cooking Dinner
Weird Fiance (fun fact: this is a writer doing the hating)
Female Apostle
Broken Special Characters

And that's just on the first page!
Hmm... that's interesting. I looked through those and I thought Locker Room Soap and Weird Fiance were a hate posts; others expressed disagreement with writers, but I thought did so in a way that clearly conveyed they were expressing a differing view, not trying to attack a writer's response. (Album of the Year attacked a writer, but I thought it was done in a way that was clear it was "jolly.")

I'm not a writer though. Writers in question, did most or any of you feel attacked or otherwise hated by any of the above posts?

Obviously I'm not answering wired's question - which I am curious about as well - but I was also curious why the leggings thread got chosen. I started that thread because I didn't like Rating Pending "attacking" Hypatia, whose answer I agreed with. Isn't that kinda the opposite of a hate post?

Yes and no. You were defending Hypatia by attacking RP. ;)

I think the Leggings thread was more about hating both legging wearers and haters of legging wearers than it was about hating the answers to the question. And the goulash thread wasn't so much disagreeing with the writers as it was that I was surprised that something I ate in a fancy restaurant usually was something gross.

Which is probably telling for this entire topic. I would venture to say the majority of offenses or aggravations (including my own against Hypatia) are the result of monotone text. (This bolsters Katya's earlier post.)

Yeah, I thought the Locker Room Soap one was way off the mark. I felt (and expressed) that CJ had a chip on his shoulder and I'm still pretty pissed that he accused me of lying. Yeah, it was a misunderstanding based on buildings, and he owned up to it, but I thought it was completely ridiculous that instead of saying "which building are you talking about? I have the illustrious and distinguished job of filling up soap in the women's locker rooms at the RB and I do it at midnight" he said "oh man, Dr. Smeed makes stuff up to make himself sound cool OH AND BY THE WAY I can't tell the Board about it because they are a top-secret cabal that backs each other up, right or wrong, and Dr. Smeed is a jerk and not accountable to anyone AND BY THE WAY AGAIN BYU has repeatedly told the Board to lighten up and they aren't doing it and whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!"

All over filling up soap in the locker room. I know I'm not one of the beloved writers of the Board. I'm okay with that. I know that I am snarky and frankly a jerk sometimes, but I am not a liar or a straw man/punching bag for other people's gripes about other stuff. I don't need defending and I can account for myself.

Actually, your "It was my kill. I beat you to the kill." comment today just made you one of my favorite writers ever (and I was already a fan). I literally LOLed.

Dr. Smeed,

Are you really still bitter about that? Because I took it back and publicly apologized, which is not something I find easy. Now you have specifically and personally attacked me WEEKS later. What more do you want from me?

I had a professor that once told us to took 7 ups to make up for every 1 down. So any time you say something mean or hurtful to a person, you needed to tell them 7 nice things to bring them back to where they were before you talked to them.

As in, you're dealing with hurtful things being said to you? Or you're needing to balance offering criticism with offering praise as well?

Hypatia refers to this forum as the Board Hate Board. I love the Board. Do any of you hate the Board? Is Hypatia just poking at us all, again? What do you think? I realize this is not the subject of the question asked by "Not Adam Savage," but I'm curious about what everyone here thinks about this reference to this forum. And...how do you feel about someone having fun poking at you?
Heh, I had to do a search to find out at what point Hypatia had made the Mythbusters comment; turns out it was directed at me.

I don't mind fun-poking, though I admit it can be hard to pull off in black and white. An impersonal anonymous forum can not make personal attacks, and nothing therein should ever be construed as such. On the other hand, everything directed to a persona is being sent to a person, and should be phrased with such in mind.

While there have certainly been vitriolic comments made on the various topics of the mb. If there has ever been heat directed at me, I've missed it or forgotten about it completely.

It's like in church when people say they love you, even though they don't know you . . .
