YOU GUYS. If you haven't tried the caramel pecan silk supreme pie from Village Inn, you need to repent of your fallen ways. I have seen the light, and IT. IS. AMAZING.
Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
the pistachio salad from macey's is also amazing

Just FYI, I'm giving up most extraneous internet usage during Lent. I might drop by here for a few minutes on Saturdays, but otherwise, talk to you all after Easter.

My uncle is in Japan right now. We got an email from him and he's okay, but it's still concerning. And tomorrow is his birthday. That's an unforgettable way to spend it . . .

Yeah, scary stuff going on in Japan. First the earthquake, then the tsunami, now they've got multiple nuclear meltdowns to deal with...it's just insane how much can go wrong.

I think I spent about 4 hours driving today. More than anything, I just want to stay home for the rest of the day. I'm done.

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
We're going on a 10 hour trip on Saturday. The longest Dragon Baby has ever been in a car is 4 hours and that's not all that fun. So I'm a little nervous for both this Saturday and next Saturday (when we come home).thebigcheese wrote:I think I spent about 4 hours driving today. Yuck. I've heard nasty stories about kids and travel. We're actually going on a little trip this weekend too. But not as far as you guys -- just 3 hours to Moab.
Yay for road trips?

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
What we've done in the past is leave at night and drive through the night. Kid sleeps fairly well since it is their normal sleep schedule.
And TBC, small world. Bob and I are going to Moab this weekend as well.

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
Craig, thanks, but I'm not a huge fan of drugging my kids for no reason.
tbc, usually it's not too bad. Turns out, the iPad with movies on it is a wonderful addition to a car trip.
That and not being in a rush. Realize that you'll have to stop periodically instead of rushing from Point A to Point B.
Marduk, that's a thought, except I don't do well without sleep. Especially not driving. And while Yellow would probably do just fine, I'd feel super guilty sleeping while he's awake and driving. That combined with the fact that Dragon Baby doesn't do well sleeping in the car, makes me a little leery trying that. We did a trip to Idaho once leaving just a little before bedtime. She was awake the whole trip. So she went to bed that night about 3-4 hours past bedtime. Yikes! I'm guessing if we tried that with a longer trip, she'd end up crying herself to sleep. And I don't deal well with that, either. I'm praying that enough distractions and hopefully a nap (hopefully!) will be good enough.

Marduk, are you going down for the half marathon? I know you hate running...but maybe you're involved somehow? It's kind of a big deal.
Anyway, several members of my husband's family usually run the race, but the two of us decided to opt out this year. We're going down there with them, but we're probably going biking instead.

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
We're going on a group camp out arranged by a couple of Marduk's friends. I'm worried about camping and cold, but I'm glad we're doing that instead of running! I admire those who like to run, and avoid the action myself as much as possible. (I actually cried the first time Marduk had me go running with him. I am that much of a wimp.)
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
How fun! Camping in the cold really isn't too bad -- as long as you're prepared. Sleeping comfortably is obviously the hard part, but if you have a beanie and a good sleeping bag, you should be just fine. The desert does get cold at night, but it's generally pretty manageable.
Last year, we went backpacking with some friends at high elevation in October. That was a mistake. For some reason, we didn't anticipate just how cold it actually gets in the mountains during that time of year, and we came dramatically unprepared. That was probably the coldest I've ever been in my entire life. Brrrr.

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
I love that when you add a friend on Facebook, it now says, "Please only add this person if you know them personally" (or something like that). Which means I just added C4, Craig, and Marduk … illegally? Unethically? bob is good, though. (Though, for what it's worth, Craig added me.)
Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
I've met you! Well...I saw you, in person, once. With Dragon Baby and Yellow. Even though you didn't meet me I was like "oh cool there's dragon lady" and then kept talking to genuine.
Edit: Now Facebook is suggesting Board people as friends again.

Are they just trying to cut down on spam? I should ask my friend who works there.Dragon Lady wrote:I love that when you add a friend on Facebook, it now says, "Please only add this person if you know them personally" (or something like that).
