Re: college without technology (#62445)
I am so dependent on my computer for college, as well as my iphone. I also was thinking of getting an ipad because so many people give me itunes giftcards that it might be cheaper to get my textbooks electronically. Not to mention the convenience of having all my books on a device weighing less than a pound.
I work so much and live is a super cheap place, so I might indulge myself with a last-gen ipad.
I've seen people in my classes who have both laptops and ipads and i thought it was excessive, but one or the other is a necessity these days.
I think it's strange that a laptop is required for BYU idaho, but not BYU.

Does BYU Idaho rent computers to students? That might be the difference.Kissables wrote:I think it's strange that a laptop is required for BYU idaho, but not BYU.
Re: college without technology (#62445)
My sister is currently going to BYU, and she doesn't have a computer or ipad or anything like that. She just uses a computer at the library or her work (or, sometimes, her roommate's laptop).
So, I think it's an overstatement to say that a personal computer is a necessity, even if though it does make things much more convenient.

Convenience becomes necessity when it's after midnight and you still haven't finished the term paper that's due tomorrow.
Re: college without technology (#62445)
It's only a necessity if you've procrastinated writing the term paper that long. Procrastination is another type of convenience, so you're really just trading one convenience for another.thebigcheese wrote:Convenience becomes necessity when it's after midnight and you still haven't finished the term paper that's due tomorrow.
