Radiation levels

Post by SMP »

Question 62733

Democritus' answer was informative, and I don't have a problem with it, really. But he gives a lot of information in his answer, but someone looking for a simple answer, it can be hard to fish out from among all the technobabble. So I wanted to give my simple answer that would completely resolve his confusion. Here it is:

When news articles report radiation levels are "X millisieverts", what they really mean is "X millisieverts per hour".

(This was not meant as a criticism of Democritus' answer. I learned a lot from it. I just wanted to summarize for the sake of anyone who was still confused about the matter.)

If your avatar is a radiation symbol, I'm going to go ahead and say you can comment on such answers without anyone thinking you're overstepping your bounds. :)

I'm always walking that fine line between thoroughness and brevity. Looks like I may have lost people with this one.

I do appreciate your feedback, SMP, lest you think I lump you with the Haters. ;-)

Ah yes, the mythical and elusive Haters. I've heard many a tale of their exploits. I hope someday to see one, perhaps in its natural habitat. But these are the dreams of youth, and have no place in this old noggin. I should leave these adventures for those more arrogant. And supple.

Sounds like my kind of quest. Any tips on where to start, Marduk?

O.O

Can I have directions to your natural habitat please? My sturdy mule / white horse rental is still in the works, but at least I can make a start with Mapquesting.

(Also, I can bring pretzels, in case you're out of them.)

I live in a cave in the Himalayas...or the Andes--I forget which. It would be much faster, though, if you hiked to the Y and I opened the portal on my side. Also, pretzels would be nice, thanks!

Marduk, I cannot show you a Hater in its natural habitat. I can, however, show you a tree who stood in the presence of a Hater at one point in time.
