I wrote five full-length screenplays when I had a job like that - it was amazing, getting paid good money to work on my own stuff. I kind of wish I could go back to those days.

I used to practice drawing (I'm terrible, but I always wanted to be able to), write story snippets, make to-do lists, figure out my budget, daydream. Right now in downtime I try to think of new product ideas or other ways to improve my shop.

Also: memorization! I like having things memorized (it was once a goal of mine to memorize all the verses to 100 hymns) and it's great for keeping your mind busy.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.
