And yes, the pig farmer guy is a villain. He helped murder Ribaldi and convinced everybody to ransack the mansion. Laban, as I'm sure you know, is a villain too.

I had the same reasoning as Katya. Now that we're past the obvious villains, I'm starting to have trouble drawing the line (not that I've said anything . . . school's kept me sort of busy). Like, is Jekyll/Hyde a villain? Both the protagonist and the antagonist? And now that Veggie Tales is in there, well . . . I'm actually much more inclined to count the peas as villains than Olaf (especially because he turns out so friendly at the end, and he wasn't consistently harmful to Lyle). The entries for today are fine, but I may be a bit more stringent in the future.

So, as a reminder: a villain is someone who consistently or eventually causes harm to the protagonist.

I would definitely count Hyde as a villain. He kills people. Heck, he's the pure evil side of Jekyll. How much more villainous can you get than that?

Also, if you're going to pick at straws, I really don't think Dr. Neville Craven was a villain. What does he do to harm Mary? Nothing.

Yeah, it's from the movie. I love that scene; Mrs. Von Tussle trying to be all seductive, and Wilbur just not getting it.

He also keeps Colin locked up in his room instead of helping him get better so he can get the house. And I think Dr. Craven slaps Mary when she accuses him of that fact.

Right. I forgot Dr. Craven slaps Mary. That would work. I think part of my confusion was that in the book he's not bad, but the musical makes him more of a villain.

Ok, 2 questions. One, my internet was dead all of yesterday and most of today (until about 1 minute ago). Can I still be in? I'll do two songs.

Two, I'm still confused on the villain thing. So… a villain can't turn good at the end? Because Olaf (who you pointed out becomes all friendly at the end) tore up the sails on Lyle's ship and left him to die in the ocean during a storm. So… in future you won't count that, but you will count Dr. Craven slapping Mary? (Even though he turns out to be all friendly at the end?) And in my head, the protagonist in that story is Christine, not the Phantom. And the Phantom does considerable harm to Christine. Emotionally, he tries to kill her lover, and he burns down her place of employ. Not to mention killing many people who she knows well. So… it all boils down to him being the protagonist? So… people who do harm to him through the movie, their songs would count as a villain?

I'm with Dead Cat. I . . . have realized that villains are kind of hard to define. Go figure. (My reasoning for the Phantom was that his name is in the title, and also my views of him may have been altered by reading the plot synopsis of the fan fiction-esque Love Never Dies. I will still hold to this possibly faulty reasoning for stubbornness' sake).

I guess my hope was that we would only run into villains that stayed villains the whole time. Once we threw VeggieTales into the mix I knew this could be problematic.

Since I like math, here's an equation:
V = B*T-G*T, where V = villainy, B = badness, G = goodness, and T = time. So, if someone did something really really bad at some point in the story or was decently bad for most of the time, and if their bad acts were not canceled out by subsequent goodness for a prolonged period of time, then they count as villains. Of course, these are arbitrary measurements. And I probably should have included constants, and probably square-rooted something or other. Oh well. Tomorrow I'm learning about linear regression and I might have a better model then.

For the record, all the VeggieTales villains only are good for the last song of the show. And usually they don't actually do anything good. They just feel bad and sing a song about how the good guy had it right all along. So technically, I think they fit your equation.
